What's the procedure for doing PSE test on AS-11 export from Avid? I was planning in running AQC with PSE (QScan) after the AS-11 export but there is an entry for the PSE testing in the UK shim metadata.
Are folks doing an OP1a export, running PSE test on that then exporting that OP1a as AS-11?
Or can the AS-11 metadata be edited after the fact?
Thanks
Trevor this is a key part of my QC training so happy to input here. Its imperative that your PSE test is on the actual deliverable file. So testing an output and generating a new output for delivery isn't allowed.
Its known that the conversion to AVC-Intra can introduce level changes that can trigger a PSE issue.
So a few methods.
The best is to output the AS-11 with the PSE set to not tested.
Run the Full AQC and if ok then use the DPP metadata app or CineXtools to modify the AS-11 metadata to mark the PSE as Yes and enter QScan and the Qscan PSE algorithum number (should be Quales V1.1.0 I think)
Or
Export your AS-11 with PSE marked as Yes passed and then run the AQC and ensure its passed ( a slightly riskier approach as you may get a fail and by mistake pass along the AS-11 marked as a pass)
Make sure your AQC report has any warnings signed off (or fixed) and that you have an eyeball QC document there is a DPP word document many people are using you can download)
Make sure your spanned marker doesn't include the end 5 sec freeze. if audio layout is R48 2a then tracks 3 and 4 will be silent so no tone.
I have a PC installer for the DPP metadata app if you can't find it online. the current version is 1.3.172 (as of July 2017)
Happy to have a zoom chat if you need any other input.
Good luck hope it goes ok.

Another couple - the default for secondary & tertiary languages is zxx - should that be left as is? (It is English language only). Plus does 'picture aspect ratio' use AFD codes or just regular '16:9'?
Presumably there is a guide somewhere online but I couldn't find it.

Zxx means none so thats for secondary and tertiary languages. For picture aspect ratio type 16:9 (the AFD code will be set as 10 automatcially)
DO you have the DPP metadat app as its a realy good complicance check of ypu AS-11

downloading from https://www.thedpp.com/filedelivery#fd-uk thanks.
If you get a java warning let me know I have the PC java installer you need. The page warns that is uses an old version of java but thats not technically correct. You need to have installed the right legacy java version for it to leave the required registry entries but you can then update to current and it works fine.
I ended up installing v8 to get it to work in OS X (v14 had errors).
Not sure that I get an option to update the MXF when metadata changed though - seems like I can save a new MXF. (I'm just trying it out at the moment)
Launch metadata app. open new project.
Open the AS-11 MXF
update the PSE entry. (that tab will go amber) click validate.
If its ok all tabs will go green. There is a bug that may show the AFD as red but showing 10 (the correct value) change it to a different number then change back to 10 and re validate.
When you have all green tabs the finish tab will become selectable. Then choose the top option Generate DPP As-11 file.
Great, thanks Pat - very useful. So there's no way to 'insert edit' the metadata back into the AS-11 file, you always have to rewrap to a new file in a different directory?
Presumably CineX allows this kind of insert? Any other apps that you know of?
Cinextools is definitely the tool for doing an insert as a binary drop in.
But the DPP metadata app doesn't alter the AV content. Only the, MXF wrapper.
So yes it's a copy of the file but the audio and video is copied across directly.
Thanks Pat, for info - Cinedeck are releasing an AS11 metadata only app in May.
Thanks for that. But I use Cinextools in my QC training so I'm across its functions.
Have you see the Harding AVid plugin for PSE checking in the timeline as an effect.
Its neat.
You still need an external AQC with PSE as you have to have tested the deliverable file.
But its a quicker way to test fixes on the timeline.
