Hi folks - I'm setting my home system up to allow as seamless a transfer between edits from the suite I use at work (on PC, not my system) and my home setup (Mac) as I may need to self-isolate because of the coronavirus in the near future.
Current system at work is 2018.10 on PC, but at home it's 2019.7 on Mac.
Not sure is I can achieve seamless with this, so quite prepared to temporarily downgrade my home iMac to 2018.10.
Does anyone know if this is likely to be easy (I do have the 2018.10 Mac installer) and successful? Any tips?
Work are consolidating the material to a SanDisk Extreme drive with a 500mbs read/write speed to edit off... XDCAM 50 material.
Should all work, right?
Thanks for your help in advance.
Old editors never die, they merely fade to black.
Should be easy, and will work.
As Job said it should work easily. The past few days I have been doing exactly that, switching back and forth between a 2018.x PC and a 2019.11 Mac without problems. Just one thing though in case you plan to edit right off the SSDs that you get from work: ExFAT would appear reasonable for that but is suspected of causing odd behaviour. (That's only for actual editing. Data transport of course is fine.) So if possible I would rather choose NTFS or HFS and have one side use an appropriate software for read/write to the non-native file system.
Stay healthy!
That should work.
I would fully uninstall manually though, and make new user settings as there are quircks between 2019 and 2018.
