After 20 years of using Avid, I went kicking and screaming to Premiere because the facility I was working at demanded it. And while there are many things in Premiere I miss from Avid, programming keyboard shortcuts is definitely not one of them. I think it's Premiere's single most powerful advantage over Avid. Occasionally I want to cut particular projects in Avid, but the keyboard shortcuts can be a deal breaker. In general, I'd say Avid should just completely rip-off Premiere's interface in this regard, but to be specific:
1 (and most important!)- Allow all modifier keys to be used. Only having "Shift" as an option is not enough
2 Allow all keys to be used. ALL function keys through F19, All numeric keys. All the keys
3 Make the keyboard shortcut interface search-able. Trying to figure out the logic of where the commands are tabbed is crazy-making.
4 Make menu-to-button re-assignment not so limited. For instance, I'd love to be able to assign a shortcut to adjusting clip gain in-to-out in the timeline (not in the bin). As of now, I have to enter my audio workspace and pulldown the hamburger menu in the audio mixer to achieve this. Huge pain. If that menu item were mappable, it would be no problem.
Thank you!
