    Timeline mute 2019.12

When I am recording guide VO, all previous 2018 versions of MC muted the audio when I clicked the speaker symbol above the timeline, with a red X through it. This version behaves differently and according to the manual by design. In software only mode it brings up Windows sound volume control, with the Ultrastudio 4K Mini it brings up the Desktop Video control panel, where there is no facility to completely mute the audio. But according to the manual it should still mute the hardware with an X. If this is by design and the manual has not been updated, I don't understand the reason or logic? You can cut the picture monitor with the blue icon on the timeline but not the audio - it doesn't make sense?

Am I missing something in settings, I've looked everywhere? I can install a monitor control but this was easy and useful.

Absolutely no interest in this? It is pretty important for doc TV editing where guide comm has to be frequently recorded, with BMD hardware. Avid?

Hi Marianna, I am on a busy TV schedule and have had no time to raise a case on this - any news? In any case it does not seem like a support issue, since it appears to be by design. Working this week at a facility with only 2018.8, same issue. Perhaps this a feature request to bring back the mute as was?

How do you mean? I am on about muting the whole audio sytem to avoid feedback when recording guide comm.

sorry, i was assuming you were doing the v.o. yourself, wearing headphones - i guess it's not the case...🤔

No worries. The normal situation in longform TV doc series offline here in the UK is you are usually working with an Edit Producer who basically, 'paper' edits sync and then writes a guide comm between and around it, which I record, to edit too. It's not a quality critical recording but you are often doing it, so headphones are unecessary once you've set the level. But I would be happy with wearing them, if the Ultrastudio muted the monitor output when you plug in the headphones - it doesn't. Neither can you mute Aja hardware (where I'm working at the moment) from it's control panel, as well. Therefore the button is useless now with hardware.

It seems all recent versions of MC, both 2018 and 2019 exhibit the same behaviour and I don't understand why it was changed. Why have the ability to switch picture monitor output off and not the audio? The latter surely is just as useful.

Could you solo an empty track ? As a temp work around.

    Re: Timeline mute 2019.12

I'm not sure I follow? Again, I am refering to muting of the whole audio output, not tracks, to avoid feedback when recording to a mic. But I'm open to something I may have missed.

    Re: Timeline mute 2019.12

If you create a dummy empty audio track when you solo it you will automatically mute all the other tracks.  It's a very simple and elegant workaround.  However I'm not at all sure that it will meet your needs with V/O recording.

I understand but that does not mute the sytem audio when you are in capture, so how is it an elegant workaround?
