MC 2012.9 slows right down (to usless) in Colour Correction mode

I have a 5 minute corporate that I'm working on. It is a 1080p project, but some of the interview footage was shot at 4K (to give re-framing scope).

I have been doing some basic CC work, but MC slows down to a snail's pace, often hanging for minutes at a time before it comes back. Swirch back to SourceRec mode and MC is back to normal speed.

Anyone else seeing this? It's driving me nuts!

I'm on 'edit 1' of the systems in my specs - basically Win10 Pro (1903), Core i9 (10 core HT), 64GB ram, Quadro P4000 driver 441.12.

    Any suggestions appreciated

Edit 1:- Intel Core i9 7900X msi x299-SLI-plus mobo 64GB DDR4 3000Mhx memory NVIDIA Quadro P4000 (Nvidia driver 441.12) Samsung 860PRO SSD 512GB system... [view my complete system specs]

Possible  workarounds I would try. (FWIW I have not used either method in recent versions of MC.)

Make a video mixdown of the cut and edit this onto a top empty video layer.
1: Use Add edits to split the video track above the mixdown to the desired cut points and create the CC's on this track.
When satisfied duplicate this timeline, delete the mixdown track and render the CC track.
2: Or Use Add edits to split the mixdown video track. Create the CC's on the mixdown track. Duplicate this timeline and in this timeline drag each completed CC effect into a bin in Source Record mode and immediately drag each effect back onto the appropriate original video clip.

That's a very powerful system - it should not have any trouble with 4K footage in CC mode. Something else must be going wrong...

I presume this is not a Symphony system, just plain CC (so no secondaries)?

How is your media cache configured (site settings)? Is your system running low on RAM during this slowdown due to excessive caching?

Thanks Andrew and Steve for responding.

Steve - you're correct its not a symphony system. I'll have to check on the cache configuration (not at edit suite at the moment), but with 64GB RAM is that even likley?

Andrew - I have tried toy workaround and it doesnt seem to matter whether the CC mode is working on linked 4K or transcoded HD media my machine still grinds to a halt (it is actually working with transcoded DNxHR media) in the project Im working on.

    Will report back.
