Media Composer using all my Ram

    Hi,

I'm running 2019.11 and after I upgraded I started to notice my computer was a lot slower within the program.

In my task manger Avid is using all of my Ram (64gigs) . Not sure why, this never happend before.

Does anyone know why it's doing this?

    Thanks

It's odd. When I close out of the program. The RAM goes down to 0. When I start it up, it uses all my RAM.

    Rob,

Go to task manager and see if Appmanhelper and Avidbackgroundservices are running and quit them and see if it changes

Also - check your media cache settings - you may have reserved too much memory there and it doesn't show up in task manager as being associated with the Media Composer application (or the background services).

    Hi,

I went into Media Cache and set the Video Memory to 30gb and the file cache to 16.

Still having the issue. I tried force closing the AvidOPFrameGeneratorApp.exe/AvidPhoneticIndexer.exe/AvidAppManHelper.exe

    And still the same problem.

Re: Media Composer using all my Ram

30gb is far too high - that could be your problem right there. Set it to 8 GB and the file cache to 4 GB and see how that plays out.

Then if that works you can increase those numbers a bit.

    Good luck

Re: Media Composer using all my Ram

    Hey,

This worked. It took it RAM usage down to 30gb. Which is much better now.

May I ask why taking it down reduces the amount of ram usuage?

    Thanks again for this!

Re: Media Composer using all my Ram

The media cache is EXTRA RAM that Media Composer can reserve from your total system memory and it uses this to cache video frames to speed-up playback. This memory is reserved in a special way that does not register as being consumed by the MediaComposer.exe application - it is in addition to all the memory already consumed by Media Composer (and all its related services).
