I plan to upgrade my PC from Windows 7 to Windows 10. A hard disc exchange frame will allow me to work alternatively with separate hard drives for the two systems.
I wish to keep Media Composer 2018.12.3 on the Win7 system and upgrade to MC 2019 on the Win10 system. In this way I can finish a project with MC 2018 and start new projects with MC 2019. The Win7 system will also allow me to use some old programs (e.g. Adobe Encore CS4, Adobe Media Encoder CS4) which might not be working on Win10.
The upgraded PC will have a new mother board and a new graphic card compatible with Avid’s recommendations for MC 2019.
Questions:
1) I guess I will have to de-activate MC 2018 on the Win7 drive before I install MC 2019 on the Win10 drive. Is this correct?
2) Which MC 2019.x is the latest full installer?
You don't need to swap harddrives for dual boot.
Just install win 10 on a new drive in the same computer.
you'll get OS selection at each boot.
1. I'd leave the new install as a trial for a bit. Deactivate the Win 7 version when you're ready.
hopefully you'll know what version avid you want within 30days.
Thank you Lukas.
MC2019 needs a new user profile (UP). So I will have my old UP on the Win7 drive and create a new UP on the Win10 drive?
Sure.
with 2019 we should make new settings. maybe even I will for the first time in 10+ years
I had slight issues with taking projects from 2018.x to 2019.x.
Going into project folder, deleting everything but bins and .avp cleared that up for me.

Does this mean I cannot have two versions of MC with one perpetual licence at the same time, i.e. MC2018x on Windows 7 plus MC2019x on Windows 10?
I wouldn't think so. haven't tried that myself.
Mabe if the machine IDs match? I don't think you can foul anything up by trying.
Worst case, you have to deacivate one version befor activating the other.
Cumbersome, wouldn't want that on a daily basis. We'll see.
A dongle would allow that.
