Avid MC GUI Resolution - Upgraded to 4K Monitors

    Hello everyone,

This week I upgraded my dual monitor setup to 4K/UHD monitors.  Within the current version of Avid Media Composer software, is there a setting somewhere that I can adjust the size of the graphic interface?  It feels like I'm still using HD monitors when I'm inside the Avid.

    Thanks,
    -Richard

Avid MC's scaling is based on Window's system scaling. Im using a Dell UHD monitor with 200% scaling. It looks correct. Did you try a new user setting?

    Hi Dom,

    You are kidding me.

You really don't understand that it is artificial?

Avid has not yet solved the 4K monitors problem.

I'm not sure what you are referring to.

Re: Avid MC GUI Resolution - Upgraded to 4K Monitors

I'm confused because some of the tutorials I've seen out there not relating to the specific problem I'm having, shows the application displaying everything in the application at a reasonable viewing size - significantly smaller than what I am seeing on my end.  If I switch over Win10's display from 150% vs 100% scale and layout, every other application (including the OS itself) I'm using alongside the Avid app now become unviewable with the size now being really small.

Are you sure Dom that Avid hasn't resolved the 4K monitor problem?

Can someone with Avid please respond to this posting?

    Thanks,
    -Richard

I posted a screenshot of my MC GUI. I have 200% Windows scaling for this one. My specs are below my signature.

200% is huge... not sure what size monitors you are running... not going to work for my situation.  Thanks Dom for the potential solution.

Ok, so this is what you do...  I'm running 2X 27" 4K/UHD Monitors.  If you go into the Windows display settings, scroll down to 'Scale and Layout' and select custom scale factor.  Instead of the recommended 150%, set it to a custom 145% and hit apply.  Then select sign out to take affect.  When you log back in and you boot up MC, you will now see it is set to a 4K resolution. So awesome!!!  I am blown away on how much more room you get!  This is going to make a huge difference in my workflow!

I have a 27" monitor but my work desk is deep. My viewing distance is 36"+. Ideally it should be 20" inches at the given PPI.

With a 32" UHD monitor 150% scaling seems appropriate in my situation.

Re: Avid MC GUI Resolution - Upgraded to 4K Monitors

    Hi Dom,

The general problem is that Windows 7 was the last Microsoft system that allowed the use of different font sizes.
Windows only allows scaling the entire system, which is first of all raster scaling and at high magnification it blurs the image and secondly it transfers a number of problems to software producers.
For example, Avid allows fonts of varying sizes, but the Effects Pallette window does it incorrectly, and fonts are absolutely too small in compare for example to Bin Wwindows.
The same applies to plugins such as BCC or RED. Fonts are too small.
I am very allergic to image quality and I cannot accept scaling in Windows because it leads to image blur.
