MC upgrade question: 8.8.5 to 2018.12.8

I'm getting ready to upgrade my MC from v8.8.5 to v2018.12.8.  Need to deactivate or uninstall the old version first?

The installer will uninstall the old version and warn about the activation.

I prefer to uninstall manually first. I never deactivate and not had an issue but its probably safer to do so.

Don't forget to re-create new user settings and don't just transfer your old ones across.

Ken, how did the transition go? I'm about to go from 8.5 to 2019.9... and wondering if that's the right choice for version to go to? Not sure if 2019.11 is stable as I see a lot of fixes implimented in that release... last isn't always best?

    thanks

Re: MC upgrade question: 8.8.5 to 2018.12.8

Very easy transition so far.  I conservatively went with MC 2018.12.8 because I figured that version is about as stable as they get, after a year of bug-fixing.  Also, I am not sure whether my current computer has enough oomf to handle the 2019.x versions.  Here is my upgrade sequence:

    1. Deactivate MC 8.8.5

    2. Uninstall MC 8.8.5

    3. Install MC 2018.12.8

    4. Activate MC 2018.12.8 and options

    5. Open MC 2018.12.8

    6. Set up new user settings

Steps 1, 2, and 4 may not have been necessary, but I decided to play it safe.

Hope your upgrade goes as smoothly!

    Ken
