I am stunned that AVID has not implemented blend modes in MC after all these years, while every other NLE has. Round-tripping to AE has been a PINTA. Now it's as simple as a plugin My question is how can this guy knock this out on his own (free download) and all of Avid's software engineers cannot? Maybe they should hire him. Just a thought. http://djfio.com/mdv/ Works a champ.

its not that avid cannot. its that they dont because theyd be stepping on Boris and Saphirres toes. Boris is really the only good plugin suite for avid and if avid starts making all their effects and including them for free why would Boris continue to make plugins available for us?
I dont agree with this approach but it is what it is. What irks me the most is that Boris is waaaayyyy more expensive for Avid then Ppro, etc. This is a carryover from back in the day when Avid was super expensive but now its pretty *** chaeap. No reson the plugin pack should cost 8 times more than the software.
I think Avid could have implemented blend modes without stepping on BorisFX's toes but I take your point, Robert.
BorisFX has told me that the cost of supporting MC is also much higher for them than it is for Premiere and AE - I'm not sure why that is but I have no reason to doubt their word.
If you are planning to do any compositing within Media Composer, BCC certainly helps make that a reality... KPM has done quite a few tutorials demonstrating the immense power of BCC within MC... You can find them on the BorisFX website...
Cheers
Steve
