Hi Marianna - I've subscribed to the KB article but do you have a rough estimate when there will be compatibility?  Just got a new machine and can't downgrade the OS.  Are we talking days, weeks, months or years? Thanks!

I hate how Apple control this so much.  It is so annoying.  We are in the situation of needing to buy new Macbooks, obviously we'd like to get the new 16 inch ones that have fixed the keyboard and overheating issues, along with various other hardware upgrades over the previous versions, but we cannot install the right version of the OS on them to play nice with our version of Avid (2018.12.8).  So we're missing out on all the new good stuff because Apple are a bunch of control freaks.  I would never buy a mac for personal use for this very reason, I've been on HP for a while now and I am much less paranoid as a result.

Any chance we'll see Catalina support in the December update? With the 2019 Mac Pros and 2019 MacBook Pros now shipping, many post houses are ready to replace those aging Westmere's and trashcans.

    Hi Marianna,

What's causing the delay for you to receive the new Macs?  I ask because we're now approaching the third month after Catalina's release with no version of MC compatable with it.

Avid MC v2020.5, macOS Catalina 10.15.4, iMac 21.5-inch, late 2015 (purchased new on Jan. 2017), Processor: 2.8 GHz Intel Core i5, Memory: 16 GB 1867 MHz... [view my complete system specs]

    Andrew,

I believe she was referring to 2019 Mac Pros, not Catalina systems in general, as I specifically mentioned the Mac Pros that started shipping last week.

    Dklein,

Correct - we have not received the new Mac's yet - 2 are on order.

    Hello Marianna,

Would you think any speed with additional benefits to using OSX Catalina over OSX Mojave when Media Composer and Pro Tools are Catalina supported?

Re: macOS Catalina - Just Say NO!

Okay perfect, thanks Marianna. I'll stick with Mojave as Resolve uses this too. But many plugins I use are stil not Catalina compatible so that's good news, so no need for me to rush to update to catalina.

I hope Avid has at least picked up a 16" Macbook Pro that have Catalina to test? They've been out for some time.

Re: macOS Catalina - Just Say NO!

The point is it's not like Catalina (or even Catalina beta) has not been available for a very long time now. Blaming no support for Catalina on the late release of the nMP is ridiculous. They could've picked up a Macbook Pro as you said or just any other Apple computer that can run Catalina...
