MC 2019.x to 2018.x Project and Bins Compatibility

    Hi All,

We are plannig to upgrade from MC 2018.12 to MC 2019.x but before doing it I'd like con confirm that we can open a project from 2019.x on MC 2018 just in case we have to share any Bin with another Postproduction House or if we find a critical Bung in 2019 that would affect our workflow.

I haven'd seen anthing saying that old good Avid Media Composer retro compatibility has been affected, bit I'd like to confirm before hitting the wall.

    Thanks in advance.

Re: MC 2019.x to 2018.x Project and Bins Compatibility

I took a project from Avid Mmedia Composer 2019.8 to the last 2018 versions all seemed okay. But was just adding a shot here or there and some bin re-ordering. However it seemed to open again and work with 2019.8 fine.

    Hope that helps.

Re: MC 2019.x to 2018.x Project and Bins Compatibility

I work with a few projects created in MC2018.x (and earleir versions) and also some in 2019,x versions, and I switch between a test system running 2019.9 and my main system running 2018.12.7 back and for without any compatibility issue.

However there are some features, which are only available in the 2019 version. e.g. OP1A encoding and new wrappers. These files are stored in folders "AMAFI" and "UME" under "Avid MediaFiles". Clips stored under these new media folders will be shown as "off-line" in 2018.x version of MC.
