Is there a way in Source Settings or FrameFlex to create a 200% timewarp clip of footage shots at 48 FPS? The goal being to create "normal" speed clips from offspeed footage that can be synced to normal speed audio and added as subclips to bins and script bins.
I see that Source Settings "Playback Rates" tab has a "Playback Frame Rate" option but it only offers:
- Clip's FPS (23.976)
- Project's FPS (23.976)
Neither of those two options would help my 48 FPS footage.
Thanks!
From my assistant, Bob Berman, who has made it very easy to work with all the offspeed footage we get:
Create a new sequence, cut shot in and apply correct timewarp such that shot plays at “24” fps, sync sound manually in sequence, rename sequence to correct name + 24fps, apply autosync to sequence, which creates subclip out of sequence. If necessary, group clip to other sync cameras.
The only issue is in creating lists for finishing- have to go back to the original clips manually, at least for the EDL's we deliver.
Wow. I wasn't expecting that to work -- that you could bake a timewarp into a subclip. Amazing.
From Bob:
"...just tricky on the conform. May want to mention that as the timewarp doesn’t show up in the timeline as a timewarp. (Though I’ve done this for years, not sure why it’s an issue on this show.)
Which is why it’s key to type in the “24fps” in the name, so you can find it later. Maybe I replaced them with a true timewarp in the other shows."

Yeah, just tried cutting it into a sequence. The timewarp icon is gone but it still plays at timewarped speed.
In the EDL there is no speed indication, yes. But the source and record in and outs are correct. See how the length of the source side doesn't match the length of the record side -- the source is two minutes while the record is one minute.
Has anyone reported this as a bug to Avid? Is the timewarp embedding into a clip a legit feature or an easter egg?

This is how the same EDL would look with a traditionally cut in timewarp effect, not from a timewarp embedded into a clip. It has an M2 annotation indicated a speed change. I wonder if this affects AAF sequence exports the way it does EDLs.

So there's no way to apply autosync for rotated clips? I just tried and got "This command is not valid on sequences which have effects." Because sometime they turn the camera 90 degrees to simulate portrait view video from a smartphone POV and it would be nice to create autosync clips from that.
