Re: Blend modes - homemade avx

This plugin has been completely game changing for me.  I love that its cross platform too.  Thank You so much for it.

I have a question though.  Is there any way to make a Resolve version where the blends from media composer, can make it to resolve through an aaf?  This would make make things so much easier when finishing videos.

    Thank You!

    @ cls105
Great idea, but looks like it's not just easy as "write a plugin for resolve" - because Resolve must support importing some parameters from aaf natively. and this may be unreachable for me....
by default - avid include all fx and plugins metadata in aaf.
for instance, if resolve will translate natively "composite mode" and "opacity" from blend-x to clip parameters. as it does with resize and rotate ... ... looks like we need to directly cooperate with resolve developers. Is here anybody from davinci developers ?
I can give you parameter uiid's ! nobody.... looks like a dead end. but idea was great.

Re: Blend modes - homemade avx

    Hey DJFio[DF],

    I think I found a bug in xBlend Beta6.

Just tried installing  it on my old workhorse home system.  MacPro 3,1 OSX 10.11.6 running MC 2018.11.0

The system hangs on startup right after "Loading effects" or something like that (sorry, did not take notes and had to uninstall to get something done).  Force quit required.

It is working fine on a much newer iMacPro running Mojave.  If it is really helpful I can reinstall and try and get logs for you.

    Otherwise - great tool!!

    Jef, thank you for testng.
    that's known issue.
in your case you must use "legacy" installer :) for older mac os'es.
it's apple related thing due to different libraries being used. in diferent os'es and MC version combinations.

Well, I tried the Legacy version.  No good.  Went through all the loading steps and the hung up.  Had to restart and remove the plugin.

We just upgraded to MC 2020.4 and the AVX2 plug-in doesn't appear to be working any more. I have to look into this, but as of right now, no composite modes are transfering across. :( - I'm very sad as we've become accustomed to these awesome effects. FYI.

Update: So, I loaded a bin full of customized effects (hardlight, softlight, add, etc) and at first they did not work when I opened the bin to drop on the clips. But then I quit MC, launched again and then the effects DID work. -- I have to test and see if this is an intermittant or the first time you open the effects in the project, you have to load it via the effects palatte.

Marc. Are you still on Win 10 + MC2020.4 and using the latest beta 6 from the download page?

Is avx file placed correctly in AVX2 folder?

UPD: i see. you found a way to make it work.

Sorry, I was not. I was using a version downloaded in November 2019. I was able to get the "old" one to work but at first, it was not. I opened it in Effects Palatte and tried a new effect from scratch. Then I went back to my bin and drag-n-dropped my prebuilds and they all worked.

I have downloaded v6 and installed it. All effects appear to be operating normally now.

Wow, thanks for responding so quickly!

This is where it has been installed: C:\Program Files\Avid\AVX2_Plug-ins

    Love this tool! :) Marc
