Greetings!
I'm trying to create a rough cut sequence using the original GoPro Hero 7 and Sony RX100M6 4K footage in my timeline to avoid transcoding a bunch of files I'll never use, but the playback in both the source and record monitors is unbearably choppy using the camera files, even with proxy set to 1/16 and timeline resolution set to yellow. My system specs are below. Can anyone recommend how to remedy this problem, without transcoding?
My files are reading/writing a G-Tech Studio RAID thunderbolt 24TB drive.Would I see improvents in LINKED playback using an SSD drive? If so, please let me know which drive options might be the way to go.
If it's not the drive that's the problem, please let me know what might be.
Thanks!!!!
System SpecsMedia Composer 8.4.5 Pro Tools 2018.12 Mac Pro 2013, MacOS High Sierra 10.13.6 • 2.7GHz 12-core with 30MB of L3 cache • 64GB (4x16GB) of 1866MHz DDR3 ECC • 1TB PCIe-based flash storage • Dual AMD FirePro D700 GPUs with 6GB of GDDR5 VRAM Video file read/write drive • G-Tech Studio thunderbolt RAID 24TB
What is the frame rate of the 4k footage? If it's 59.94, it's very difficult to get smooth playback at any resolution, at least on my system. But when I change to a 30p project (29.97) the 4K footage plays perfectly. The choppyness seems to be more related to frame rate than resolution.
The Hero 7 footage is 4K 60fps and the Rx100M6 is 4K 24fps. I set my initial project type as UHD/23.976 FPS. Any suggestions?
thanks
Try right-clicking on one of the Hero clips to access the Source Settings and change the playback rate to 24fps. The footage will play as slo-mo, but you can do a mixdown and add a motion effect to bring the speed back to normal.
Ah thank you, I’ll give that a shot and get back with the results!!
