    Linking Error on P2 & XF-AVC Media

Running Media Composer 2018.12.3 on HP Z820 with Interplay | Production

When we are linking to P2 cards from within the Source Browser we are consistently getting the following error:

    Assertion failed: bAAFProcessorOK

    File: s:\coresw\ame\src\ama\ama_manager.cpp, Line: 3082

It is possible to click continue but with a large number of clips it becomes tiresome.

Has anyone seen this error before? I have checked and have the latest version of the P2 plugin from Panasonic installed.

Re: Linking Error on P2 & XF-AVC Media

Usually this is caused by excessive memory usage in the Avid Editor.

High Memory usage may be caused by the following factors:

    • Excessive Bin metadata / items are open
    • Excessive video streams (or effects) on playback
    • Prolonged usage by Avid hardware (e.g. the drives,  are always on and have not been rebooted recently)
    • Audio dissolves

Can you isolate part of the piece?

Cut it in half and copy that half to a new project and see if it crashes.  If not then it is the second half of the project that contains a problematic clip or effect.

Can you close all the bins that are not required?

Make sure you have well over 16BG as the MC application requires about 4 to 6 GB of memory to run.  We have had customers with the same issue that had IE and Chrome open with 20+ pages that was taking GBs of memory.  If the customer has other applications running at the same time, then obviously, they will need more memory to run all the applications together.  Also the more bins, the more memory needed.

Re: Linking Error on P2 & XF-AVC Media

    Hi Marianna,

Thank you for the quick response.

We have 16GB RAM installed, so may look at moving to 32GB in that case. No other applications running however (chrome etc...)

The error actually appears during the linking of the media, before anyone has had a chance to start editing or even playing it back. Once you get past all the errors (1 per clip) the media behaves normally.
