This is a good idea, but how would this work? If you change the speed rate wouldn't that modify the sync? There are so many little things that would cause havoc especially in a shared project environment.

So I timewarp each clip on timeline, add burn in, mixdown, then create multigroup.

When I lock picture, I replace all the mixdowns w/ burn in by manually punching in timecode from raw and then speeding that up.  This manual method is the part that kills me, so tedious.  I believe premiere can have sped up clips in multigroups.

Another simple way of wording this request would be, adding rendered precomputes to multicam group.

I have to say this network based processing is exciting to me for transcoding.  I hope its affordable and doesnt need nexis or other expensive avid stuff.

I could see myself having an high core count itx build dedicated to transcoding.

Hopefully It can work simply using a 10gb nic, crossover cable, and without the need of a monitor, switch etc.

I am feeling optimistic about this new chapter now.

Understood. Can the camera shoot in high speed but mark the clip at the base speed you need for sync (e.g. 23.976) so when you ingest no motion FX is needed thus it can be utilized in multicam? If not, transcoding it to burn in the motion FX.

In the end, I think you are asking multi frame rate multicam support. It would be huge achievement if Avid engineers can figure it out.

According to this German video from NAB, MC 2019 is expected to be released in May.

I really like this new look.  I can see a lot if Premiere and even some FCPX in there and I think Avid could have done an entire viral marketing campaign around putting the weightlifter icon back on the tool bar!  The quote from the gentleman at the end hits the nail on the head:  Creativity from brain to screen without having the software get in the way.  To me, that’s the biggest plus of any NLE.  Nicely done, Avid!

Yes, it's NOT a reskin, it's a fully new backend, you can tell form the new features.

1. Considering the introduction of background rendering *and* distrib network rendering it is *definitely* a full rewrite, not some reskin - this kind of work takes long years. I wonder if they went with the old Fusion approach (which was great) ie distrib rendering is for timeline/viewport support, while bkg rendering is for offiline outputs/renders...? If the latter, is Deadline support coming...?

2. Do we know if this rendering engine will support modern GPU-based platforms or, fingers crossed, even renderers (eg Redshift, Octane)... or they have written their own?

3. I love the flat design, much more modern - but more importantly it makes the free-to-drag-resize UI much faster.

4. The tabbed side menu looks straight out of Resolve; considering how quickly Resolve is being turned into a all-around tool I can see Avid took off the gloves and accepted the challenge.

5. I wonder what 'massive media mgmgt' will mean under the hood - finally you can have tens of thousands of media/clips in a folder?

6. I really want to see how those default logger, assistant or producer workspaces will look like (I assume they come as presets)...

7. Suddenly MC will look like a modern app, with modern features, while technologically catching up to Nexis (which runs a proper, . modern sw-defined storage stack.) I can only hope it will also wipe out all the old garbage code (and no more weird, ancient crap like Host-1394 in Capture etc. :))

8. Will this revamp extend to MediaCentral...? I mean I'm sure it will but when... also, will MediaCentral Asset Mgmt pricing finally drop to a humanly acceptable level (ie you don't need another $50k-100k investment on top of your Nexis E4 to introduce Editorial/Asset Mgmgt for 10-15 editors...?)

Seems to be way more than just a re-skin. Many fundamental changes to the engine and of course the look. This is a significant overhaul even if some of the changes are under the hood or are geared towards those working in larger teams.. They have training class going on at Avid Connect in Vegas. Certainly feels faster to me (even multi-cam responds faster). Didn't try exports but the new look and the various edit, audio, color views make it feel faster since you don't have to mess with resizing windows or moving bins. Much more modern looking and more responsive.
