An aspect of live timeline that's tough for me is that I expect the expand or contract timeline hotkeys to recenter my playhead on the timeline. When I hit them while the timeline is playing, I'm not recentered, so it takes me a sec to look around the timeline to figure out where the playhead is. It's not a catastrophe, but it does slow me down.
i would also like an option to turn it off given that it doesn't seem to behave as marketed. There is a massive 3-5 second delay on every keypress or mouse click i make after enabling the Live Timeline. It has been like this for me ever since the feature was introduced in 2018.7.
If i could leave the timeline playing and navigate around the interface in real time this would be great but that is not what i experience as a user. I would be interested to know if this is the same for others as well or if it's specific to my hardware for some reason.
Hopefully such GUI issues will be fixed in the new version coming out in June 2019.
Techinically, it's not the only way. COMMAND+4 will toggle to your composer window, then you can press space bar. Alternately, you could map this to a different keyboard shortcut.
I have been stopping playback for 20 years by clicking on the record side monitor. I'm losing my mind now that I cannot perform a simple function that was literally the foundation of how I operate on a daily basis. Like previous controversial 'innovations" Avid has in the past created a way to disable these features in Timeline settings etc.
I feel like I'm editing with one hand tied behind my back.
Please hurry! :(
Cannot agree more!! All these new features are nice, but AVID should take into consideration, that all those who use MC for decades are used to certain work flows and this has to be maintained!
So please put it back as it was!
Best Veronika
I cant believe people are actually complainging about the live timeline.
You can stop it any time you want by hitting K or the Spacebar. Or touch the Effect Pallete.
The ability to zoom in out/ enalrge and shrink tracks - type comments into makers, adjust audio levels, add keyframes, patch and deselct tracks, organize bins, all while playing a sequence or a source is invaluable to me. You guys really need to look where the competition is going. Ive used Avid for over 20 years. Times are a changing and you gotta evlove. Its what editors do.
There not going to change it back. lol Its 2019 and this how NLES should behave.
Last October I posted on this thread that I wished there was a way to turn off the Live Timeline. Now it's time to eat my words! Over the last several months, I've grown to very much appreciate the capabilities. Yes, I had to slightly alter my workflow, but the benefits of the Live Timeline functionality made it well worth the effort!
Hey Rob,
Totally with you about the evolution. I loved the idea of the feature when it was introduced. My post was in frustration at the 4-5 second delay in the GUI whenever i try and zoom in/out, add a marker with comments etc...
Can i ask, when you perform these actions is the AVID GUI response immediate? Or does your system lag at all?
Thanks very much
Riccardo

Yea Im not experiencing any of that. 2019.6 is nappy and responsive on my system as any stable version in the last few years.
99.8 of the time its working as advertised. Every once in a while Ill click on something or do a key command that should work "live", that stops the system, but its far and few between,
Might want to reinstall/uninstall - make sure youre on the correct OSX for the build.
Hey Rob, thanks for that. I have upgraded to 2019.7 and this does now seem to work as expected. A whole host of other bugs of course... but those are for different posts in other feeds...
