Can anyone help with an activation problem? I've had a hard drive failure with MC installed. Fortunately I had a complete clone of the drive as a back up (feeling very smug!) and booted up from this. So far so good. However, I cannot run MC from the back up. When I try to open the application I get a window "Welcome of Media Composer. Please select one of the options below to activate your software." I check the box "I want to activate my software using the Internet, another computer, or a volume licence server." I click "continue" but it just takes me back to the same window again.
I presume that MC won't run because it is detecting that it is now on a drive with a different identity and it is not licenced to this drive. I would first need to delicense it by running "Avid Licence Control" on the original drive. However, I can't do this because the original drive has failed. Suggestions welcome. This is MC 6.5 BTW.

Select Broadcast & Video, then on the next page click the + next to Contact Support and call the number listed for your area. Help with activation issues is free, and it's option 2 from the phone menu.
If you still don't get anywhere with them, send an email to Marianna Montague (marianna.montague@avid.com) and Raff Condalor (raff.condalor@avid.com). They're customer advocates, and can help you.
In the meantime, if trial mode is available you could use that. It's fully functional and good for 30 days.

I have a perpetual licence which expires on 08/12/2018 acording to Application manager 17.12.0
I have just upgraded Mediacomposer n my 2017 MacBok Pro to 8.10.0
This will not run as I get the error: "his software was released past your contract expiration date (12/8/17)"
I did have problems earlier in the year when AppMan thoght my plan expired on 12/8/17 not 8/12/17 ( im in UK)

Try deactivating and then reactivating your license in the Application Manager.
Thanks that worked
There is somthing very wrong in the way that appmanager "manages" the licences.

The app manager talks to the server whihc in turn communictaes with the license itself. You must deactivate then reactivate your license ONCE per 365 days so that the Appman, My Avid and the server now you renewed.
Same for a dongle - in that you must update the dongle once per year as well so it knows you renewed. the Updater.avd in your My Avid is what you would use as if you renewed - that file would have the necessary info on it - which in turn would trnasfer to the dongle when updated.

I don't know how MC handles verification in relation to the system drive, but many apps do tis via the Volume Serial Number - on windows machines the new drive can have the volume ID edited using system internals VolumeID - but I don't know how this can be done on a mac box. Just a thought - good luck...
