    Change aspect ratio of media

    Hi all,

I tried to search a lot but found no topics around the problem I have. I shot 1920x1080p footage at 25 fps but I want my film to be 4:3 so 1440x1080 to keep the best quality. However from what it seems and from what I found Media composer doesn't allow for such dimension. Even if it doesn't what would be the easiest workflow to edit my footage in a way that I get an idea what it looks like in 4:3 and I can actually choose what I want to show in the frame (using frame flex i suppose) and then to export it in 1440x1080p? Thanks.

I would apprach it this way.

Work in a 1920x1080 project.  Create a 4:3 mask to put on a layer above all your footage in the timeline. As you cut your footage into lower tracks and edit, then add a resize and adjust framing or positioning underneath the mask.

    Finsih your edit.

Just before export, remove the mask off the upper layer. On the export dialog box, set your Width and Height to 1440x1080, then click the "Crop/Pad" button next to it. On export it will crop off the sides where the mask was hiding the edges and give you the final file you want.

in mc recent updates, you can work with mask margin fonction, and have the choice on export to have it on or off.

go to export setting... you can custom export whatever you want your dimensions to be.

i shoot in 4k and want the widest i export 3840x1550 crop to i have a real wide screen look with no black bars

tinker with those settings for the desired look.
