    Scrubbing across linked media faster

I decided to start linking and transcoding only what I needed in the project rather than importing. In a 1080 project with 1080 material I find I can not scrub across as well. I can use J,K,L but I want to go faster.

Question: is there any way to reduce the quality in order to scrub? I have no options to go to proxy in the settings.  You can see my computer specs in my profile as it's up to date.

The fastest the PC (SSD, CPU, Memory, Media Cache settings) the fastest the scrub, edit, export etc.

This is even more true for AMA clips.

I think I can put the source files on an SSD drive and transcode to a hard drive,

I have a 4770K quad I7 core what CPU would be better?

I notice you didn't mention updating the graphics card and it's ram.

What would be a good minimum set up to scrub 4K video?

If you want to scrub the same way by AMA as you do with transcoded files,

I would say don't waste your money. It's not going to happen.

I personally always transcode and for my habbit to always backup my projects to another

disk as I work on RAID 0.

P.S. My best bet are on the SSD and CPU. And I think that 16G is not much for this task also.

As I work on multiple projects, I thought if I worked in AMA and just made sub-clips of what I wanted in the project it would keep the project size down and maybe I could archive the entire work project.

Thanks for the ideas, I will try to update my computer more.

    Agree with George.

Ronald, why don't you transcode all your 4K clips to a low resolution proxy ?

DNxHR LB with reduced spatial resolution/raster dimensions (e.g. "Source 1/4") would create lightweight clips that  play/scrub/edit very smoothly.

When your rough selection is done, you can relink then transcode to your desired final (full frame size / hi res) format for fine editing.

Re: Scrubbing across linked media faster

It depends on the format of the linked files  XDCAM - no problem,  Long GOP panasonic files - not so good.

I installed an NVME SSD and put the files on there, along with an overclocked i7 7820 8 core its not bad at all.  Even the panasonic files are usable (with the CPU maxed out)  I have got 9 streams of  HD multicam running OK with linked files.

Asus X299, i7 7820, Nvidia 2000M 32GB ram, NVME SSD 8.9.1 ( yes its very fast!) [view my complete system specs]
