Crashes to desktop from splashscreen at "Initializing Audio" with Avid Media Composer 8.8 popup box "Exception: Failed to initialized audio hardware"
Read applicable documentatiopn including readmes, install guidelines, whats news, etc before upgrading from MC 8.7.2.n to 8.8.n. Docs state EUControl and Nvidia driver updates also required. These done before installing MC 8.8.
Tried reinstalling editing suite & MC only both via ApMan & from ESD product download webpage. Aways uninstall, reboot, reinstall, reboot. MC crashes at same place in launch sequence. Pro Tools does launch and work. Other programs also work Mbox Pro 3rd gen. Audio hardware failure appears unlikely. Artist Transport continues to work in Pro Tools.
Updated Apman a day or 3 ago. PT and prior version of MC launched under it.
OT, new ApMan has cleaner look.
Thoughts?
Does this CPU have BM desktop software installed? If so try re-installing it AFTER PT's and MC have been installed. This has worked for me with various versions in the past. (Still using BM 10.4.3).
If not are you using ASIO? removing this helped solve an audio issue with a system with MC 8.7.2 co-installed with a ProTools 12 and having a BM Intensity Pro 4k. (I think audio trying to use BM ASIO driver)

Will do

Audio a non-issue until installing 8.8. At least not recently. Also, no observed changes to contents of ilock.
I have the same problem. Not having ProTools, only MC.
I got only one audio Plugin (EQ) when opening MC.
I think this is a problem with Win7(x64) not getting anymore updates.
Downloading new iLok won't run either.

George, a crash isn't the same thing as what you're seeing. In your case, make sure the Pace service is running. This goes back to a long-standing problem with the Pace service defaulting to automatic start and needing to be changed to automatic start-delayed. The MC 8.8 install seems to have reinstalled Pace and set the service atartup back to automatic.
You'll get one or two iLok error messages and then a message about limited audio functionality when you start MC if the Pace service isn't already running but MC will launch and run.
Scott
Sorry, I missed the crash part. Excuse me all.

AndrewAction: George Angeludis:I think this is a problem with Win7(x64) not getting anymore updates. It is working properly here George on W7 Pro 64 SP1. George Angeludis:I got only one audio Plugin (EQ) when opening MC.I get a full range of Audio plug ins here. If I have not plugged an iLok into this computer I get a pop up iLok message asking me to activate 1 ProTools plugin (Space) closing that message allows MC to open normally with all MC audio plug ins. Maybe a reinstall will help you
Check that the Pace service is running first, George. Set it to automatic start-delayed if it isn't. Start that service manually this time and check MC. If it's OK, then the next time you start your computer it should be OK. A reinstall won't make the service start setting right if it's wrong.
smyers63:A reinstall won't make the service start setting right if it's wrong.
If as George says the current install only shows 1 MC audio plugin (EQ) then it is possible something is wrong with the install. Or maybe George onlylooked at Tools /AudioEQ and not in Tools / AudioSuite for installed plugins.
AndrewAction: smyers63:A reinstall won't make the service start setting right if it's wrong.Maybe not ...... but a MC reinstall starts with a Pace install before it reinstalls the App Manager and then MC. Andrew, the new install changed the service start type to the one that causes the problem. Another install would not help in that case as I said.
The MC 8.8 install broke things on my system just as it did on George's.
Do you not remember the long-standing problem (which I specifically mentioned before your first reply) of the Pace service not starting and causing this trouble and that changing the start type to automatic-delayed fixes it? The problem and the fix have been around for a long time.
As I said earlier the problem (in my case) is that I have Win7X64 and updates disabled.
So some files cant be updated and PACE 3.1.3 wont install.
I downloaded an older installer of PACE and this did the trick.
This is the installer that worked with Win7x64 (updates disabled).
iLok Legacy installer.
Now I will apply all the Win7x64 updates and see what this gives.
(I have Acronis image in case of emergency and now I know what shall I do after MC 8.8 installation).
Sorry for hijacking this thread, please lets help the friend with the crash problem.
Hi George, I have sent you an email with links to the two updates that are required for W7. With an Avid Knowledge base article. Just these updates worked here on a system that had no updates after SP1. Good luck.

So, since Pace wasn't installed, the Pace service wasn't running.

Mark, does your audio hardware appear in the system and does it work outside of MC? You seem to say it does but not specifically. If you have external or add-on audio hardware, how about removing it and trying MC temporarily with built-in audio hardware?
