Hi all,
Long time lurker, first time poster. This forum has saved my butt many times. Last night, in fact. I have a quick question I hope someone here can answer. There are some people in my organization who love shooting in formats I haven't tested and now I hear I have some eager beavers out there filming in ProRes 4444 XQ on an Arri Alexa Mini.
Our fancy new 4K suite is a PC set up (specs aren't on hand right now, will post later if it's relevant) and there is surprisingly little information out there about ProRes 4444 XQ on PC based Avids.
Basically - will I have a problem with this codec or will it simply import/AMA link all the other ProRes files I have had to deal with?
Thanks,
MVE
Yes you will. Support was never officially added by Apple last time I checked it on Windows.
These can help.

There's two options I have found for importing Prores444XQ on a PC.
1-The latest version 12.5 of Davinci Resolve will injest ProRes444XQ, but, it will not encode to it.
2-There's a small utility from VideoToolshed called 4cc Change. 4cc Change will change the header of the file so that it looks like Prores that Windows can read. Since Prores444 XQ is the same as the one that Windows can read, except for the data rate, the header change has no effect on the quality of the converted file.

Thanks both of you for you help.
Despite our worry we ended up having no problem AMA linking to the camera raw file structure and then transcoding to DNXHR 444. AMA link playback was a little laggy at times but not terrible. Off the top of my head specs for the system in question: Avid 8.5.2 with an Artist, HP Z840 running Win7 Pro SP1, 32GB RAM, Quadro M5000.
Interestingly the producer decided to have someone transcode to DNXHR 444 MXF OP-1a on set in Davinci, but those failed to import at all. I'm not sure why they chose OP-1a, as we specifially asked for OP-Atom as back ups, but I don't believe I've had a problem with the OP-1a DNx files before. That being said this is our first foray into 4k, so it's all kind of new.
As far as I know, Avid will injest OP1A only if the essence files are DNxHD. DNxHR will not work in OP1A.
cuervo:DNxHR will not work in OP1A.
Are you sure about that? I haven't tried yet but that would be a bummer.

...and, I have been unsuccessful at importing DNxHR essence OP1a files generated in Resolve.
