Low-res proxy checkin causes High-res to show as 16 bit audio

Hello. I'm adding this as a new ticket since the original ticket was resolved and this is a new topic:

    In summary:

We currently have a process that creates a Low-res proxy version (H264) of the original high-res version after checkin into Interplay. Once the Low-res is trancoded it is also checked into Interplay. A question came from the customer related to Interplay Access and the dynamic relinking. They noticed that the High Res Comes in and the Audio Bit Depth that shows in Avid Access is 24bit but once the Low Res Proxy is checked-in this changes to 16 bit as it’s the last thing that’s checked in. We checked the High Res in Media Composer and its definitely 24 bit.

They have spoken with their Avid engineers and they advise having Access showing 16bit Audio may cause the below issue:

“It may cause issues where the system thinks the correct audio bit rate is not available. This may cause potential dynamic relink problems, I think we would want to recheck-in the high res at the end to make sure it was the last metadata check-in for correct metadata of the clip.”

Is it possible to re-checkin the Hi Res post the Low Res checkin so that Access shows the Audio Bit Depth of the Hi Res and not the Low Res?

What we have attempted in the interim is to use AMT and re-import the High-res version of the media to correct the issue where the media audio appears as 16 bit instead of 24 bit. This appears to work in most cases except sometimes the re-import of the High-res fails due to AMT_COULD_NOT_COPY_MXF_MEDIA error. What appears to be happening is that before the re-import, the high-res media may be being accessed through Avid Access so AMT cannot update the High-res in ISIS. Is there an alternative to correcting the 16 bit instead of using a re-import since it can fail if the file is being accessed?

    Thanks, Joe

    Joe,

Have you considered using the CheckInAAF() funciton in Interplay Production Web Services?

You could use this check in an AAF file that is set to use the 24-bit audio. Unlike AMT, the IPWS call does not need to access the MXF media files.

No I have not tried the CheckIn AAF. I will try it.

    Thanks,

    Joe

    Rob,

A follow on question. The CheckInAAF function appears to work fine. The one issue that they have noticed is that the media comes in Off-line after checkin. Once they do an update status from media indexer it does bring the media online again but is there a step that we need to take to have the media online after the CheckInAAF function?

    Thanks,

    Joe

    Joe,

I spoke to our engineers about this. They have a follow-up question:

Are you setting the "network locator" in the AAF file to point to the path of the media files on ISIS?

Problaby not. How do we set the network locator in the AAF file?

    Thanks,

    Joe

Where are you creating the media when using AMT? Are you creating it directly on ISIS or are you creating it locally and then moving it to ISIS?

Creating locally and using AMT import to do the initial checkin.

OK, what are you using to create the AAF file?

If you are using CreateAmtInterplayClip() in AMT, you can specify the path on ISIS.
