Hi all.
Can anybody tell me if the iMac 5K MF886 27" i5 3.5 GHz AMD Radeon R9 M290X with 24GB Ram should perform better on El Capitan. I am currently on Yosemite and it is very slugish. am I waisting my time with machine or will it perform better once a El Capitan patch is out.
Thanks for the help.
Robin
What version of MC? I don't believe we have announced support for El Capitan yet so you would be on your own if you go that route.
I ran 8.2.x on both OSs and did not really notice a huge difference in performance between the two platforms.
In agreement, Unity. In Disagreement, Discussion. In all things, Charity.
Sorry.
It is 8.4.1
Right. So we have not qualified 10.11 at all yet. You could upgrade but you would be on the bleeding edge there and any issues that happen we would have to stop at that door. May not be helpful to you.
I think we plan to include 10.11 qualification with the 10.5 release though.
Is that the 8.5 release and any clue as to when it might be?
I believe that is the release for the end of this month but I can verify for you.
I am wondering about the initial question of the machine. It seems like he has the proper versions for standard performance right now. Is the IMac 5k a viable machine with qualified OS and software versions? It seems like this was addressed in a previous thread, but searching with IMac 5k as the search term seems to come up with old threads.
Thank you that would be great.
Does the fact that it is only the i5 version of the model make a big difference?
Maybe I need to just get the i7 model.
So that is kind of what I was getting at. I don't think the OS is the problem. I think that i5 just isn't keeping up. I don't think that is on our qualified list either.
Like I said, I ran both OS's on my system and really did not see much of a difference.
For information's sake, the 8.5 release did get push out a bit but should be out early next year.
Hope that helps.
Yes thank you for your help. Is kind of what I was afraid of, but sometimes even the unqualified machines work with out a problem.
keep well.
Hi thank you for your input.
Do you have the link to the thread you are talking about or know what I should search to find it?
The IMac 27" 5k i5 and i7 (late 2014) are both on the qualified list, but the late 2015 model isn't qualified yet. Just wanting to see if anyone is using it successfully to see how it performs with Avid. Perhaps this could use a new thread?
