Did some checking Mario and our hardware guys say....

The Processor is only dual core i7 (Intel gen 4).  Avid min spec is quad core i7 so that is underpowered by 2x.

The graphics card is a mid range consumer laptop card.  These are not qualified and will not be enabled for GPU acceleration.  Avid specs and qualifies only the professional cards so I can’t tell you how well that would work.

This laptop is definitely underpowered for HD editing.  Transcode will take a LONG time and some effects will not play in real time.

Not recommended.

New systems shipping from HP have the intel 6^th gen processors.  Look for quad core i7 with 16 GB mem.  Skip the graphics card altogether unless they are selecting Nvidia Kepler or Maxwell cards (K2000m, K3000m, k4000m, k5000m, m2000m, m3000m, m4000m, m5000m).

Hi Mario,

I just got an Asus N551JQ laptop from Newegg.  I added another 8 gigs for ram which brought me to 16 gigs.  I will be replacing the hard drive with a 1 TB size, and that brings me to well under the $1K mark.   It runs MC 8 without issues.

Hello Mario,

     Sorry to disappoint you. Our hardware expert informed me that The A10-7300 is an AMD processor which has never been tested by anyone at AVID, this is not supported, better safe than sorry. Keep hunting I'm sure you will get one that's bang for the buck.

 Further information from our hardware experts. To meet the min specs requirement, check out the latest from HP. Note that this has NOT been qualified by Avid (not a workstations laptop) but it does meet the min specs and should be OK to run MC.
