New Quadro m4000. Anyone using it?

    Hi:

Does anyone have experience with this? Should work as its replacing K series, but is not yet officially supported.

New build and I would rather invest in M series rather than older K series, if it will work of course!

    How about driver version?

    should be fine.

isnt a new card really, maxwell core from Q4 2014, same 28nm. expect 20% more than k4200

big update will come with the next die-shrink in Q1 2016.

Thanks Lukas. Not to quibble, but according to Anandtech, m4000 was released in August 2015. Perhaps we're thinking of different products?

So it's pretty new tech which SHOULD work, but I was wondering about a real-world experience opinion.

    the card is newly released,

the chip that's inside is a year old.

the gpu market currently has a massive process node problem. we were supposed to be at 22nm a year ago, still stuck at 28nm. so we're seeing many souped up products.

the chance that this card will work in avid is 95%, a risk i'd take

If you are using the m4000, which Nvidia driver are you using?  I was told by Nvidia support that the340.84 driver is incompatible with the m4000 and to use the latest driver for the card which is 358.91 - which is not listed as supported on the Avid site.

Contact Marianna at marianna.montague@avid.com. She might be able to shed light on this

as the M6000 is on the supported list you'll be fine.

For now at least i would use driver 347.52 as thats qualified up to the M6000 card

Re: New Quadro m4000. Anyone using it?

Thanks for the reply.  I tried to install 347.52 but get the message "This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware." so this doesn't seem like an option for the m4000.

MC 6.5 until compatible driver would also do the trick.

    more stable anyway.

Re: New Quadro m4000. Anyone using it?

    Good news!

I communicated with Marianna Montague and she told me support for the new Nvidia boards would be in MC release 8.4.3 and that it would require the 353.82 driver to work.

Well, 8.4.3 came out today!  I installed it and also installed the correct 353.82 driver (my bad...) and lo and behold it all worked.  I verified that the M4000 was processing my MC renders using the Nvidia GPU resource meter.
