    DNxIO host connection

Does anybody know if I can continue using the same PCIe connection I use now for Mojo DX with the new DNxIO?

The FAQ of July 1st says it is being tested. So what did you find out?

    Thanks for the answers.

    Re: DNxIO host connection

We’ve tested the cables that we will be shipping from Avid.

If you want to purchase from another source, you assume the risk.

The same Thunderbolt and PCIe that are supported by Avid work

I emailed my regional reseller for Avid last week but didn't hear back from him. Is this unit shipping yet?

    Re: DNxIO host connection

    Hello Marianna

Thank you for the quick reply.

So I assume that is a yes. The Avid Mojo DX PCIe connection will also work with the Avid DNxIO that will be released on September 4th. Did I understand this correctly?

It would be helpful if Avid could update the FAQ (http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/faq/DNxIO-FAQ):

Q: Will the PCIe cable and adapter that worked with Mojo DX and Nitris DX work with the DNxIO?
A: We are currently testing this configuration but are unable to confirm this at this time.

    Thanks for the clarification.

    Re: DNxIO host connection

DNxIO starts shipping tommorrow, but I can't place my order because i still don't know whether I can continue using the PCIe adapter I have from my Mojo DX or not.

This should be easy to answer by the Avid Masterminds.

    Re: DNxIO host connection

    Here is the scoop.......

Q: Will the PCIe cable and adapter that worked with Mojo DX and Nitris DX work with the DNxIO?

A: The most recent revision of the PCIe Gen2 x4 card and cable that was sold with Nitris DX and Mojo DX are supported for use with Artist | DNxIO.  The part numbers for the supported PCIe Gen2 x4 cards are 7030-30048-01 and 7030-30048-02.

    Hi Marianna:

So what’s the difference between this unit and the Blackmagic Ultra Studio 4K Extreme? They look identical and yet it retails for $2995 USD, which is $400 USD less than the trade in. Am I missing something?

...Aside from support within Avid it would appear!

While I'm waiting for the first unit to arrive the difference between the Avid model and the Blackmagic model would be that the Avid model has the DNxHD and DNxHR codecs build in and the Blackmagic model has the ProRes (and I think also the AVCHD, not sure) codecs build in.

    Re: DNxIO host connection

Yes I have and it doesn't mention anything about daisy chaining.

Classically any HP / Dell workstation whould use seperate pci slots to connect storage and I/O. With thunderbolt, where daisy chaining is theoretically possible with storage and I/O, both would end up on the same PCI slot. The simple solution would be to add a second thunderbolt card but that is tricky in an HP Zxxx workstation as the card needs to be connected to the motherboard to the thunderbold connector and you can only connect 1.

On a mac that has multiple thunderbolt ports (on different pci busses) this issue does not exist.

I can't find any info on this.
