Hi all. I've been using the Export to MXF OP1a workflow for a while on my PC (MC 8.0), and I always have the option to select between 35Mbps or 50Mbps for the export. Now I'm working with a new Mac system running the latest version of MC, the option to export to 35Mbps is gone from the MXF export options/settings. It only has 50Mbps. Our local TV stations require a bitrate of 35Mbps, so we're now stuck...
Can anyone tell me how I might get that option back on the new system? Would it have anything to do with the Sony XDCAM AMA plug-in's installed on the PC?
Thanks in advance!

It's on the Export settings on the pulldown at the top labeled "Export as". Select "XDCAM MXF OP-1a" and you'll have the option of 35 or 50 Mb/s
Must think of something clever to go here...
Raster Dimensions must be set to 1440 x 1080 in order for 17.5/25/35 Mbits to appear.

Hi Dom, Thanks for the info. That raises another issue with our MXF exports... I'm certain you understand the magic happening in the background better than I: The project is 1080i @ 59.94 with the highest quality media being 4:2:2 @ 1920x1080 - though the timeline does contain mixed formats). On the PC system: Our MXF exports are coming out with the raster resampled to 1440x1080 and a color space of 4:2:0, and we are given 35Mbps & 50Mbps as options (no others).
On the Mac system, the project is also 4:2:2 @ 1920x1080 (no mixed media in timeline), and the MXF files can only be exported as 50Mbps.
1. Why (and where) is the PC system downsampeling the raster and colorspace?
2. Where do we set that on our Mac system?
Thanks for yoru time, Dom!
I don't remember but you may be correct that 35Mb/s has been removed from full raster 1080 project formats. I hope some one better informed can answer why this is so.
Just to let you know
35Mb/s is XDCAM EX and is always 4:2:0. But it does support full raster 1920x1080 as well as 1440x1080.
50Mb is XDCAM HD or XDCAM 422 and is always 4:2:2 and full 1080/720 raster size.
I guess all I need to know now is how to get the 35Mbps MXF export option on the Mac system.
Anyone else?
Thanks for the clarification on the 35Mbps. That would explain why the color space is being downsampled on the PC exports, and I guess the raster is being exported at the lowest common denominator, downscaling the 1920 stuff instgead of upscaling the 1440 stuff. A video mixdown may be required to get everything out at 1920.

As I mentioned you need to change the raster size of your project to 1440 in order for 17/25/35 Mb to appear as an option.
At full raster of 1920 only 50 Mb is the option.
I suspect a 35mbps 1920 export would look pretty crunched up. Subsampling down to 1440 allows the 35mbps to achieve reasonable results.
You maynot be able to select 1440 as a raster size unless you disable 3rd party I/O in the timeline. You should then get the 1440 raster option and your OP1a export will offer 35mbps

Thanks, Dom. I misunderstood your earlier post. But on our PC system runing MC 8.0, the 35Mbps option appears and the project raster is set to full 1920x1080. Perhaps this was changed in the latest release?
Thanks, Pat. I agree about the subsampeling and it seems our PC system runing 8.0 is doing the subsampeling automatically when 35Mbps is selected. (the project raster is set to 1920, but it give us the 35Mbps option and the resulting files are 1440.) The issue is that the option for 35Mbps is not present on our new Mac system running the latest release of MC. I guess now we have to change the raster manually before an MXF export?
Just to confirm, the 35Mbps bitrate option showed up after manually changing the raster down to 1440.
I still don't know why we have to do this on one system and not on the other. It's inconvenient to have to change the whole raster just for one export option (which as Dom pointed out, *should* support 1920x1080 @ 35Mbps). At least the intelligent subsampling on the PC running 8.0 is better than having to manually switch back and forth.
Thanks to everybody who weighed in on this!
