Re: Issue transcoding Sony PXW-FS7 clips

    Update,

Did the plug-in suggestion per Mondo did not fix.

also tried a few other things but the time for trouble shooting is past so we are ingesting the existing footage and a decision is being made about using the FS7 for now.

    Workarounds:

get this...ama link, transcode, serious error message, divide and conquer, find the offending clips...put the ama links into a bin by themselves for later, just for fun we bring up in source monitor, mark in and out point, subclip, then transcode subclip AND voila' it transcodes....whut the?

Per. going down the Resolve work-around: so i was transcoding and using media tool in media composer to bring up the orphan clips....got a wierd audio sync drift...~12 frames over ~25 minutes starting around minute 12? whatever...that we can deal with, i just don't want to use 3rd party trancoding.

shot UHD 3840x2160...for what it is worth...

Re: Issue transcoding Sony PXW-FS7 clips

Sounds like the expected number of audio samples don't align with the number of video frames.  There was a problem like this some years ago when a certain file recorder could record 24p from a 60i DV stream but the manufacturer never checked the audio samples agains the number of frames recorded and (shockingly) half of the clips came up with insufficient audio and couldn't be consolidated without trimming off a frame from the head and tail of the clip.

If you folks out there experiencing this problem could try subclipping the "bad" clips with one less frame on each end before transcoding to confirm this is the cause it could help to get this resolved.

Must think of something clever to go here...

This could also explain why some of us Geeked never have any problems , I always transcode or consolidate from edited sequenses and not from clips, maybe you could try that one .

    thanks all!

i think i have an answer until sony/avid fix the problem for real.

another guy i know turned out to have a similar work around of putting problem clips aside. putting them into a sequence. delete the data track. then transcoding the sequence. then moving on...that way the link remains if up rezing is part of the workflow.

    ok

    thanks

    solved for now

I'm having the same problem and this workaround worked for me as well.

Data track is the bad guy here.

    Hay Marianna,

I know that the case for the FS7/AMA/Transcoding issue was esculated a while back. Has this been resolved? Its creating alot of problems for me having to transcode to ProRes with Media Encoder then AMA linking in Avid, then transcoding from those files...

The ProRes files take ages to create and are huge, especially when its a solid weeks worth of footage...

It does seem specific to cameras. I noticed some people in Sydney in this thread. I too am in Sydney, working on a show that uses two hired FS7s, and it's only ever one of them that gives me this error.

Re: Issue transcoding Sony PXW-FS7 clips

    For what its worth,

    Im using Mac MC 8.3.1 & 8.4

I believe it to be a combination of camera firmware, camera settings & sony's AMA plug.

I have experienced some clips that half a clip offline, and the start of the vision is indicated with the red marker.

Some FS7's have no issue what so ever. F5 and 55 seamless.

Use resolve you say! Resolve transcodes to prores no problem but to DNxHD it does not work. When loading the files in MC the vision is there but audio is offline and timeline wont play.

Has anyone got Resolve to work?

Re: Issue transcoding Sony PXW-FS7 clips

Thank you for that, getting rid of the Data track was our solution ! Another work around this problem derivated from it is to Ama Link, CTRL+Shift+Right Click, Select Unlink, then Modify, uncheck the Data track, Relink the Ama Files and Transcode it. Since I have 18 days of shooting with two FS7 coming back for transcoding to me, I've decided to use this technique from the begining, ie not taking the time to isolate each faulty clip... Do y'all think it could creat issues for me in the future ? I have no idea what the Data tracks is for anyway..

Would be really interested if the above worked.

We are AMA linking and transcoding down to DNX36. I am getting the serious error message on random clips and also have beachballing when relinking offline sequences during a conform test.

Any updates on all this appreciated.

Ohh dear - was hoping for a happy conclusion here.  Bookmarking this thread as have my first paid high profile shoot with the new FS7 tomorrow. All tests so far have consolidated no problem ONCE I downloaded the latest plugin.  Make sure you have the latest PDZK-MA2_v3_41_win_en as of 17/11/15.

Symphony 2018.12.10, Blackmagic Intensity Pro 11.1 (unsatisfactory in full res UHD though for client monitor), WIN 10 on 2500Mbps M.2 SSD, Nvidia Quadro K4200, Asus X99-A Mobo, i7 5820K 4.0 GHz Hex core mildly overclocked CPU, 32Gb 2800 Mhz RAM, WD Black 8Tb RAID10 array @ 450Mbs

Hey, thanks for this - I've been having a major headache with this problem, and this seems to work.

Did you have any problem deleting the data track further on down the line?

This is an unnecessary comment. Transcoding is a standard practice. In some cases cutting from AMAs is even discouraged.
