    FX 1800 nVidia drivers

I'm running MC v 6, with an FX1800 graphic card, driver  version in the Device Manager is stated as being 9.18.3.1090

I have installed devinci's Resoilve 11 - Resolve 10 ran OK, but 11 is telling me the Cuda driver needs updating.

My knowledge of these things is very low - I assume that means updating the nVidia driver, but I am also aware the MC (V6) didn't like incorrect drivers:  is MC 6 capable of working with the latest nVidia driver if I update it?

People who know my propensity for making things go wrong will appreciate I do not wish to 'play with fire' - and update the driver for Resolve only to find that MC doesn't work: MC is more important to me than Resolve.

Advice greatly appreciated - thanks in advance.

Create a system restore point first. That way you can roll back if you need to.

Generally I find MC will work ok with a newer driver but there have been odd issues with newer drivers.

If MC doesn't "like" the driver (ie it's not on it's list of allowed driver versions) it will disable GPU acceleration. To be honest with an FX1800 card I don;t think you will notice. Your PC may even do it quicker without using thje GPU.

I'd look at picking up a newer card (used Quadro 4000 cards are a good buy) Resolve will love you for it.

    Re: FX 1800 nVidia drivers

Thanks for that Pat - I think I'll go the Quadro 4000 route:  I've had problems in the past with Restore Points.  In the meantime, I'll stick with Resolve 10 - it seems to work OK.  For what little I do with it anyay!

Like they say - if it aint broke, why fix it!  But, the FX1800 card is getting a bit long in the tooth now I think!

So again, thanks for the reply, much appreciated.  I know what to do now.

The utilities folder in the Avid program files folder has an nvidia folder with the supported Nvidia driver. So you can always re-apply that one should you need to.

    Re: FX 1800 nVidia drivers

Just had a look in that folder Pat ... all that's there is another folder with an exe file 'Create New User' ...

I've re-installed Resolve 10 for the time being - looking into those Quadro 4000 cards.
