    Compressor/Limiter slow process under 8.3

    Hy folks!

I have just upgraded to 8.3. I often use the compressor/limiter effects in the audiosuite plugin. Under v7.0.x works fine everything but the in newest version of MC is very strange, lazy... For example: i work with a 10 second long transcoded audio file on the sequence when i hit the render button i have to wait 20-30 second to start the process. Then i hit the ok button and it renders the effect again. Before the 8.3 the rendering and processing was very fast, but now I have to wait a long time.

I set the play buffer size to 16384 but nothing happened. But I dont have any more idea. Is it a bug or the mistake in my system?

Do you have any idea? Thank you for answering.

Same thing here. We often use the normalize effect. Rendering is very slow.

I noticed that, too.  Audio gain and reverb etc take at least twice as long to render as they did before.

Can you provide elaborate system specs and a recipe for reproduction of this behavior? Two moderators tried to reproduce, but couldn't. Hard to troubleshoot that way. Thanks.

On a sidenote: is this 44K or 48K, and does the sample rate of the files match the sample rate of the project?

Seeing a second render happens when it is multichannel audio, AFAIK, so that is probably normal behavior.

Job - I can confirm I've seen this. It was 2 channel mono 48KHz on a Nitris system (fully qualified z820 with 32Gig of RAM). Much, much slower than 7.04. didn't bother to investigate much further - needed to get work out.

The effect was compressor / limiter.

Can we go back to the way audio nodes used to be selected? Please? ie if you have audio nodes at the same time on selected tracks; then selecting 1 audio node selects them all at that time. Having to shift select nodes or add an in and out is time consuming and counter productive. At least make it an option.

Re: Compressor/Limiter slow process under 8.3

As Job suggested can more details be provided of how and when it occurs. Does it always occur in the test conditions? I tried it yesterday in a very simple test and have just tried again with more clips and plugins

My testing was with 8.3 and W7 SP1 on an i7 with 24GB's RAM.
The Project was 1080 23.976P  Project audio 48K  all audio files old fashioned imported from 48K .wav files.
4 media bins open clips in text view. (I believe MC 8.3 caches thumbnails. That should not but MIGHT affect large open bins in thumbnail view)

1 sequence 2 video tracks and 2 stereo audio tracks in its own bin.
Six x 10 second stereo clips ( 3 on each audio track) each had a different plugin

Used Dyn 3 Compressor limiter (stereo), Channel Strip (stereo), Normalize 48/48, Mod delay 111 (stereo), Avid Pro Compressor (stereo) and Avid Pro Limiter (stereo)  (last 2 plugins from Protools installed on the same machine)

All except Normalise started to render instantly, showed as 98% done in approx 1 second then did something else but finished within 5 seconds.  Normalize started analyzing instantly then went straight on to rendering and took approximately 10 seconds

I then repeated using background rendering and got very similar results.
As I do not use audio plugins in my normal Avid workflow I do not know how that compares to performance in 7.0.4

So under this test (and yesterdays) i do not see "i have to wait 20-30 second to start the process."

Re: Compressor/Limiter slow process under 8.3

Hi Andrew - I'll have a go tomorrow on the same project but my audio was much longer (over an hour made up of say 10 or 12 clips), not imported (AMA linked) and dual channel mono. Also used Used Dyn 3 Compressor limiter. This would be identical to many projects in 7.0.4.  Bottom line - pretty much the opposite of your test:)

I can't really say whether it's repeatable as I only tried it once.

Re: Compressor/Limiter slow process under 8.3

    Here is my infos:

My sytem spec: MC 8.3  Win 8.1 Pro HP Z420 6-core Xeon E5-1650 V2 3.5 Ghz, 16 GB DDR3-1866 memory, Nvidia K2000. and the basic internal sound card shipped with hp workstastions.

Project: HD 1080i/50 1920x1080 YCbCr 709, Video files:  XDcam EX 35 MBits (video and audio) AMA-Linked from internal hard drive. Ama linked video&audio transcoded to: DNxHD120, audio 48kHz, 16 Bit, format is PCM (MXF).

So I often use transcoded audio (for example interviwev's sound) with the dyn 3 compressor/limiter effect.

My problem is: under 7.0.x the audiosuite effects work perfectly. I hit render button, effect is rendered and i go away the next cut. But under 8.3: Open Compressor/Limiter Effecr Dialog Box, set the ideal parameters, hit the render button, render starting fast the stop 99%, and I wait.. ( 7 seconds) Then hit ok and it want to render again (the render effect dialog box opens). If I choose cancel, the first render loses.

My question: is it normally? or is it a bug?  is the problem in my system?

I've also noticed the Time Shift renders very slowly. It used to be nearly instant and now takes about 4 or 5 times as long.

Normalize seems to be fixed in 8.3.1

Re: Compressor/Limiter slow process under 8.3

Is anyone having any of these issues in 8.3.1

I'm running 8.3.1 and have been experiencing much slowere renders of audio suite plugins, takes much longer to apply the effects throughout an in to out point. The worst thing is that after I render audio suite effects on the timeline I get extremely slow video playback. It's like the system can't keep up. This never happened in older versions I've used with the same xdcam footage. Thanks everyone! Hoping someone has an answer.
