After about 2 weeks of using MC 8.2 at a new large customer setup I would like to make a compliment to Avid for once.
MC 8.2 is not perfect and there are still issues and annoyances but it is the first time since MC 5.5 that my experience with a new update is not a 2 steps forward 3 steps back one, but the other way around. For this version I'm willing to pull my walet and pay for the upgrade on my own system.
The mayor elephant in the corner is the performance which really needs attention Avid. Opening, closing bins and mixing audio is sometimes unworkably slow, especially in large projects (memory leak?) and also please checkout why external artist controllers performance is completely messed up in 8.1 and 8.2.
In general the bugfixes list in the documentation should be up to date. I haven't checked if a new revision of the readme was already published this week but for a version that fixes so many things you would expect some work is also put into the documentation.
Still compliments to the development team. Keep up this "better" work.

Jeroen,
I edit every day on MC/Symphony 4.05, with NO issues, NO slowdowns, and NO downtime. When Avid can produce a current version of M/C that can live up to those standards, then - and only then - should they be complimented. This is, of course, my humble opinion. I'm happy that you're happy - but it seems that you're only "kind of" happy.
WWLD?

Are you updating by 12/31?

Brickwad:it seems that you're only "kind of" happy.
That is correct. In my perception with many updates there were always new problems. Hence the '2 steps forward 3 steps back'. With mc 8.2 I see a change where the fixes seem to outnumber the problems hence the '3 steps forward 2 steps back'.
Per saldo, since MC 5,5, or 4 in your case, the new versions have not delivered the performance I expect and all these "steps back" need to be adressed with updates that give me a "3 steps forward 1 step back, or even better no step back at all" feeling.
Still, also in answer to Scott's question, I'll be upgrading my personal license and installing a second ssd with mc 8.2. before 31/12
switthaus: Brickwad - Are you updating by 12/31?
I'm pretty sure I will, to ensure that my licenses don't become dead in the water. Will I actually upgrade once I've paid for it? Maybe on some of my systems, but I pretty much intend on using V 4.05 until I am forced out of it by market conditions, such as formats.

Two years ago I "retired" my MC 4.05 system running XP and relegated it to a backup system. I replaced it with Symphony 6.5 (later upgraded to 7) running on a an extremely powerul Z800. Yet the old MC 4 system is still going strong and I still use it on occasion. Is Symphony 7 on the Z800 faster? Yes, most of the time. Is is substantially more capable? No. I agree with Andy that MC 4.05 was one of Avid's best releases and hope future upgrades will produce a system as reliable as my legacy MC 4 system.
I have a fantastic editing assistant. He stays by my side when I edit...doesn't talk too much...and thinks I'm a genius! Check him out here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQVkYaaPO6g
