Went on the download site to download 7.0.4 and saw that the version 8.0 is listed. I also took a look at the readme and PhraseFind and Scriptsync are not licensed to work with it. Does this mean that the money that we spent for these options will have been wasted if we upgrade? I am confused and concerned.

Curious too. Avid?

BUT, there is hope: (comment from Avid L2)

Oh thank God!!! Can't live without script sync
Any movement on this? We're still stuck on avid 7.0.4 because Phrasefind is an integral part of our workflow...
Nothing yet. But dual boot might be your friend. Use v7.x when you need PhraseFind, use v8.x when you don't.

That sounds like it might cause other headaches, no? We have two separate large and long term projects that rely on thousands of hours of media that is constantly growing. Phrasefind has become our go to way to locate clips now (not so much for bining, sorting and oranizing, but for creative editing and finding clips we might not realize we have).
I was just told about Soundbite (also powered by Nexidia) but it looks like that's a Boris Plugin that only works with FCP and/or Adobe Premiere.
I'm surprised they can't figure out a contract by now, it would seem advantageous to both. I'm willing to help, I know some good attorneys.
(If you know of a link to any info on good dual boot setups, I'll check it out... We also are running MC 7.0.4 on a new Mac Pro 12 core.)
With the way Avid updates have been, I find dual-booting a lifesaver.
In fact, as we are in the beta program, we have three partitions. One is v7.0.4, one for the current release of 8.x and one is for the beta testing of 8.x. When a new release is finalized, I install it on the other parition, but until then, keep the most stable version available. If I have too many issues with the current beta, I drop back to the current release.
I may not use PF as much as you do, but I had several projects this year that required it for part of the edit, so I used 7.0.4, then moved back to v8 when I was done with the dialog story.
With hard drives as cheap as they are, it's a no-brainer for us. And I suspect I will keep my v7 parition as long as PF doesn't work in the latest versions. But as new camera formats come out and AMA plugins only support later versions, we're living in a day and age where you can't stand pat and live off the same version for years and years like we used to.
You don't have any compatibility problems going back and forth within the same project? (i.e. titles/alphas or sequences)
Nope. At least not between these versions.
Of course, you couldn't deal with UHD pre-8.3...and plugins that require a certain version may be different (like the new AAX audio plugins, but we don't really use any of those.)
So, yes, while there are potential issues, for most editing, you can go back and forth.
