MC7 Update Activation Failed -- prior product not correct

Earlier this year, I purchased a Symphony 6 to 6.5 upgrade from Avid, and I downloaded that upgrade and  the free 6.5 to 7 upgrade.  I have been running 6.0.1.1 since last year.  Today I uninstalled everything and installed the upgrade to MC 7.0.2.  When I tried to activate the new version with the Activation ID that I was given, Avid License Control refused, with the message, "101 Update Activation Failed.  Prior product is not correct for this upgrade license."

Does that mean I have to install Symphony 6.5, then uninstall it, and finally install MC 7.0.2, or is there a way to skip 6.5 and go straight to MC 7.0.2?

Re: MC7 Update Activation Failed -- prior product not correct

I tried uninstalling MC 7.0.2, then installing and activating Symphony 6.5.4, then deactivating and uninstalling Symphony 6.5.4, then installing and activating MC 7.0.2, and now MC 7.0.2 works!

But I am still wondering if there was a way to do this without installing 6.5 first. . . .

If it makes you feel any better, dongle users had the same problem where they were required to update their dongles first to 6.5 and then to 7. For some reason the direct path from 6 to 7 did not work.

Thank you, Steve!  I'm pleased to have completed the upgrade, and your message confirms that the 6.5 pit stop was necessary after all.

Yes, but it wasn't necessary to install un-needed software.  All that was necessary was to just update the dongle alone first to 6.5 then to 7.

That's a lot less painful than doing a deactivate, uninstall old version, install 6.5, activate, deactivate, uninstall 6.5, install 7, activate!  Surely there has to be a simpler path for people using software activation.

As far as I'm concerned it's yet another reason to stick with dongle activation as long as possible.
