For users of BCC8 AVX and/or FEC7 AVX there is a free download of some effect bins available (with a movie explaining what the effects are) on borisfx.com here ;
http://www.borisfx.com/videos/BCCAVX/Avid-Bin-Templates-Overlay-Transitions.php
These effects are basically some stacks of BCC and FEC AVX effect filters keyframed and adjusted to be used as transition effects.
The longer movie @ the above address explains how to use them in more detail, but this movie (a much shorter 30 second excerpt taken from the above movie) gives you an idea of the kinds of effects provided ;

Puzzle:could you tell me how to install it into the Avid? Where is the BorisFXAVXoverlayTransitions folder needs to be place?
sure. Someone on another forum recently asked the same question and so I made this web page to explain ;
http://www.borisfxresources.com/AvidForum/howToOpen/howToOpen.html
Basically you choose "Open Bin" in Media Composer, navigate to where the bins are, select a bin that matches the frame rate of your project, and hit the "Open" button in the File selection dialogue window. then the bin will be open in your project, and you can apply the effect stacks.
The project will remember the bin under "Other Bins" and it will remember the file path from when you opened it - so you might want to move it someplace more permanent than your desktop before opening it. If they are opened from the desktop and the bins are later moved from the desktop MC would fail to find them and you would need to re-open the bins from where ever they were in order to apply more instances from the bins.
To clarify, MC needs to have the bins open for applying the effects but once they are applied in a sequence it no longer needs the bin to maintain the effect in that sequence (it is only necessary that BCC and/or FEC is installed - depending on which stacks are applied) I hope that makes sense.. (it sounds more complicated than it really is ; >)
Great - will give these a go - very handy to have to quickly show client a quick range of transitions to choose from
thanks
Thanks Dirk! :)

I just downloaded the transitions but I'm having problems using them. Although 6 of the BCC transition overlays work, the others, when dropped on V2 show a blank screen. Opening them up in Effects Editor reveals either that several of the nested BCC effects in the stack say "Unavailable Effect", or, when (I'm assuming) only one BCC plug-in is being called for, the effect name appears in Italics and there are no contols in the Effect Editor.
I have BCC 8.1 installed with Symphony 6.5.3 and those "unavailable effects" are in my normal BCC effects folders. Radial Blur, Film Glow, Lens Flare 3D, Rays Puffy, Film Damage are the ones that are identified as unavailable, but I have them in my effects palette.

You need to update to BCC 8.2, which will also give you many more green dot effects.
click the Continuum Complete AVX link here ; http://www.borisfx.com/updates/ and follow the steps to download the installer
you can see a sort of intro to the 8.2 release here ; http://youtu.be/a9r26ZyB1xE
If any of you guys is interested in some hip templated/preset effects and transition for their Avid, checkout this website https://fxsyndrome.io
They have a Boris CC option and a No-Plugin option. Very handy and easy and affordable.
