    MC 7 Titles: Illegal levels

After modifying and resaving a title created in MC 6 the white levels change from 235 to 255.

    Anyone else seeing this?

New Title; new 1080psf Yuv project; 255 levels on a white title.

Try Option dragging the color effect onto the title in the timeline.  This should correct the levels to 16-235.

    Good luck!

Thanks for responding Andy, but is are you, or anyone else,  seeing this not to be the case?

A white title or graphic created in the title tool of MC 7 has an illegal level of 255, i.e. full swing.

Is this a new feature or a bug?

I'm not currently working on version 7, but did you check your settings? I think it's under media creation. You can choose 0-255, or 16-235. Other than that, I can't think of a thing.

    Good luck!

Since there is a setting "safe colors" in the Title Tool (in the menu "Object") I would guess it's a bug ... because even when you enable "safe colors" a white title shows RGB 255|255|255.

Thanks, that's two OPs that heve seen this new "feature."
Anyone else? Or is everyone else now using Titlerpro?

The strange thing is if you look at the same titles in earlier versions like MC5.5.3.7 (unrendered) they are back to legal.

    Andrew,

I am refering to titles created in the title tool, not imports.

So am I. All tests where created in TT and saved back to MC Source window and used from there.

The suggestion of Media Creation made me wonder if Import settings (as Title Tool is I believe since MC6 is separate and outside MC) would make a difference

    Thanks Andrew, interesting idea.

Changed the import settings and tried also in an SD project but it had no effect here. Still at 255.

    the same here.

Even if ... my import settings are always set to "Rec709" (= "no remapping")... Either I create/edit graphics in Photoshop with appropriate levels... or I do import "Rec.709" and apply a curve in MC to force render it at 16bit (rather than remapping in 8bit or 10bit on import). Therefore I'd prefer not change the import settings back and forth just to create some titles ...

It's default White was here as well. I had to make white at RGB 235 for it to work.  I agree it is weirdly different.

Unless Avid confirm it is a "new feature" or bug I am going to have to check graphics from TT, Marquee and Avid FX every time I make one.Hmm

Re: MC 7 Titles: Illegal levels

I think three people have now confirmed that the title tool, after 20 years of legal white is producing full swing white as a default in Media Composer 7.0 on a Mac.

Please can someone escalate this as a bug, or explain it as a feature.

Has this been escalated for 6.5.3 as well? I just upgraded to 6.5.3 today and see fill swing titles.
