Hi GURUS,
I have MC 4.0.5 w/ mojo DX on MACPRO Harpertown. Question is, Can MC 4.0.5 work with OS X 10.8.4? I'm planning to upgrade my OS to this version.
Any known known issues?
Thanks.
Not supported at all. Last supported version of OSX for 4.0.5 is 10.6.2 - I wouldn't try it. Refer to the version matrix.
Stay on 10.6.2, or upgrade to MC7.
Thank you very much. Very helpful
FYI -
I know this is ancient but I LOVE MY 4.0.5 -
It runs perfectly on 10.6.8 ~
I wish someone can tell me if it runs on SNOW LEAPORD or LION -
Thanks
I agree! I love MC 4.0.5 on 10.6.8. Rock solid stable and very FAST. I only crash about once a month on projects with MC4.
For the last year I've been using MC7 and MC8 and am continually frustrated: sluggish trimming with audio scrub; sluggish segment mode with four-frame display; unexpected quitting; executive timeout errors; modifier key changes since MC5 that make lasso slip & slide not work properly; audio pops in dissolves...the list goes on.
Not sure what you mean when you ask if MC 4.0.5 runs on SNOW LEOPARD or LION. 10.6.8 is Snow Leopard.

Same here, except I'm using Symphony 4.0.5 on 10.6.4! Mine doesn't crash at all!
WWLD?

Right. I wish Avid would take a close look under the hood on Media Composer 4 and figure out why it worked SO WELL, and why all releases since then have not.
For what it's worth, several Mac developer gurus I know swear that Snow Leopard was the best OS build and that it's been downhill since Lion. They say Mavericks is 2nd best.
Weighing in: like I've stated elsewhere, if I could speak to Avid directly I would tell them, "New features? Yes. But not at the cost of speed and stability."
I think our ultimate combo was Media Composer 5.5.3 in OS X 10.6.8. With both the Matrox mxo2mini and AJA IOExpress, monitoring video was flawless out of all the big apps. It was marvelous.
I don't think we'll ever get back to that, though.

Amen, Isaquit0. I'd give up many new features to get back to the snappy timeline interface I enjoyed from 1998–2011.
And I would agree with you about MC 5.5.3, but they screwed up the modifier keys in Media Composer 5 on Mac. And as a result, using the lasso to get into slide mode STILL does not work properly. I demonstrate the problem HERE.
