Hi All,
I've been having a strange issue lately, for which I think I've found the reason but have yet to have find a solution.
I have a project that is 23.976 and have been supplied graphics for the project by the client. When imported, Avid moves the first frame of the video to the end of the master clip! I opened up the clip in Quicktime and according to the Inspector it is labelled as 24fps and not 23.976. I then imported this clip into a 30i project and it was perfectly fine.
Separately, we have another project that is 30i and have received a crop of Quicktimes that run the frame rate gamut from 29.97 straight through to 30fps (an anomally that occassionally happens when we receive QT's from clients and a problem for another day). When imported into Avid, certain clips work and others have a similar issue as the 24fps clips. However, unlike in the 23.976 project where the first frame is literally moved to the end, in the 30i project, it is simply a repeat of the first frame. Here is a breakdown of how those differing frame rates function in the 30i project:
29.97 - WORKS
29.98 - WORKS
29.99 - REPEATED FRAME AT END
30.00 - REPEATED FRAME AT END
Now, when these same files are imported into a 23.976 project, there are not issues.
Based on these two separate but similar instances, I can't help but to assume that Avid is not correctly interpreting the extremely slight frame difference of the clips in relation to the project.
As a solution, I've tried re-exporting the problem clips from Quicktime with the project frame rate but they problems persists upon import.
Any ideas?
What version are you running? Some of these import bugs were fixed in 6.5.2.1

We are actually running Avid 6.5.2.1.
I'm having the same problem importing 30p Quicktimes into a 59.94i project. I tried AMA file linking then transcoding. When doing this it tells me it needs to frame rate convert. This resolves the errant frame appearing at the end but ends up with my cilps being 2 frames short.
Any updates on this?
Unfortunately, I haven't found any solution yet. It is definitely a bit of an issue....
Anyone?
I'm having the exact same thing happen to me. I'm running 7.0.1. Quicktimes are in DNxHD 175. I'll have to do some troubleshooting to figure out what's causing this.
Mike,
Since there are several questions in this thread, I'm not sure which one applies to you. DNxHD 175 is a 23.976 frame rate. Into what kind of project are you importing (or AMA'ing) into?
Also, note 7.0.2 has been released. A lot of bug fixes and you should consider installing.

Thanks, Kevin. Sorry, I should have specified what I was responding to here. I have QTs that I import where the first frame ends up being placed at the end of the resulting master clip.
The QTs that exhibit this behavior are encoded with DNx @ 176 Mbps with a 24fps framerate. I'm importing them into a 1080p/23.976 project. I think the framerate mismatch is what's causing the system to misinterpret the footage on import and move the frames around -- although in the past I've only seen the system drop frames when dealing with a 24 / 23.976 situation. Which is why I requested the QTs be delivered at 23.976, so I wouldn't have any weirdness and I could fast import. So much for best laid plans! I'm going to try ignoring Qt rate and see how that works.
And yes, thanks for the reminder on 7.0.2. I should indeed upgrade! Mike
Setting the console to IgnoreQTrate true fixes it. Files come in frame for frame.
I am having exactly the same issue in a 1080 25P project. The Quicktimes I am importing are also 25fps but I am still getting the first frame of the Quicktime appearing at the end of the imported clip. The Quicktimes are encoded as ProRes 422 HQ 25fps.
I set the ignoreQTrate to true and the imported clips became even more problematic. The imported clips play in fast motion (2 to 1) then freeze on the last half of the clip.
I re-exported the QTs with the Avid DNxHD 185x 25p codec and they seemed to import into Media Composer okay.
Twosheds:I set the ignoreQTrate to true and the imported clips became even more problematic. The imported clips play in fast motion (2 to 1) then freeze on the last half of the clip.
This was a bug that got fixed later on, maybe your 4,05 version was one of those not fixed versions
Tomas
Oops. Haven't updated my profile in quite a while, we are actually running MC6.5.4.
