Export to ProTools - Video Mixdown Incompatible

So I have a project that I want to move over to Pro Tools 10, and I figured I might aswell use the default "Export to ProTools" preset. What could possibly go wrong?

After exporting I opened the AAF with Pro Tools, and it created a project and brought me to the import via AAF dialouge. On the video track section it said "video not compatible with current session". So I went back to Media Composer, figured I'd just try a different codec for video mixdown. The default was set to "AVC-Intra 100", and after looking up DNxHD it seemed to be the Avid standard. So I tried again with "DNxHD 100". Same result, "video not compatible with current session". Tried googling around for answers on what I might be doing wrong and found nothing. I'm not sure if I'm picking the wrong export settings in Media Composer, or If I'm doing something wrong on the Pro Tools end.

For referance I am using Media Composer 6.5.2 and Pro Tools 10.3.5

AVC-Intra is a rather specific codec. DNxHD should be more compatible, but DNxHD100 is a pretty new flavor. Better use 36/115/145/175/185/220.

AVC-Intra sounded wierd to me, especially after I looked it up and saw that it was a panasonic codec. Not sure why that was the default setting in the preset.

Anyways, I tired exporting using DNxHD145 this time and still the same result. Adding some screen caps, incase that helps.

If it were an option I would. Here are the options I'm given:

I am guessing your projects is HD at the moment. You need to be on 25i project.

Yea, it's 720p60. Is that incompatable with Pro Tools? What would I need to change?

Re: Export to ProTools - Video Mixdown Incompatible

I had a similar issue yesterday - turned out to be AMA related. I thought I had transcoded all my files first (in my case its dnxhd 185x) but I missed a few. I have always found the export to pro tools tab a problem, so I created my own preset. PT10 has no problems playing back Avid Codecs.

720p60 could be one of your issues as PT projects is probably set to 29.97

Re: Export to ProTools - Video Mixdown Incompatible

I had the same, just go to the Pro Tools LE export from Media Composer and all works fine. I think that issue you are egtting is that it would work with the Pro Tools HD I think.

What  you should be doing. Make sure you are under Project 59.94i on Media Composer and make sure your sequence timecode format is 29.97. Then you are ready do a mixdown or export or create AAF etc.

Your protools session should be set to 29.97

    This should be working fine

Well I have no idea why export wasn't working. Forever a mystery, but I did end up finding a solution. File>Send to>Pro Tools works no problem. *shrug*
