    Me and an assistant: VidSharX?

Hi, I edit indie films and once in a while I need an assistant. Usually, by the beggining and by the end of the project. So, I was looking at a simple solution for my case. Since, I know producers love to see the footage just after they're done shooting, it needs to be faster than swapping some bins around.

Has anyone tried VidSharX? It was on beta as xMcore.

Or any other alternatives? Ideally, I need a cheap system (don't we all?) so that my mac pro could be a server as well.

    Simple stuff.

This is AWESOME. I told Gary Greenfield at an Avid event about 6 years ago they needed to develop something like this to stem the tide of FCP expansion. I don't think they wanted to cut into Unity sales, so they kind of blew me off. But I'm all in, if it works. I'm hoping to get my hands on a demo.

Nice to hear from you Cris. I see you moved to a intensity pro? How is that working for you? Good performance? I am still sticking to the matrox mini, dunno why... it's actually crashing my MC once in a while now.

Yeah... Back to the OP, It's a real need. Something that I would gladly buy without thinking if it was from AVID. I don't understand why they don't capitalize on the whole multiuser clear advantage they have over other NLEs. It's just the best asset avid has and it's being forgotten.

I have used Vidsharx extensively in small to large working environments with Hd media.

My advice would be to download it, you get a 60 day demo period and for 3 users its $199 bucks.

It works very well and would be perfect for your kind of project. It does kinda work off the shelf but you really need to know what your doing when it comes to networking, switches and hardware.

The guys offer good support so email them your setup and they will point you in the right direction.

In our shop we still use it even if it is one person project and with a the lastest MacMini and USB3 it's very protable.

If you're still cutting in SD, HDV, etc you can setup a producer on a lounge somewhere viewing or assembling over the office wireless network on laptop.

    Good luck.

Hi Eduardo - I am thinking about using vidshrx for a 10 avid facility - any thoughts / advice on setting it up?

I ended up still not installing it. If you do so, please report back to us. It might be a bit of a stretch to use it for 10 users tho.
