    error DISK_TOO_MANY_OPEN

We seem to keep getting this error on several different computers on our ISIS network. Anybody know what the cause is? Too many disks are open? We're only mounting three volumes -- two for mediafiles, and one for the project.

I'm going to move this to the Unity Workgroups Forum so our Unity gurus get a look at it.

Anyone know what this problem even means?

It happens on any of our computers when they open a long sequence or multigroup clip. Won't play back without beachballing and then reporting this error, or just crashing outright.

We have lots of different mediafiles folders, could that be it?

We have seen this error on a couple clients when on version 6.0.1.  Looking at the console, it would indicate different media each time it errored.  Seems like the issue has gone away since we upgraded to 6.0.3.2.  We are also on ISIS 4.0.

    What versions are you running?

    Re: error DISK_TOO_MANY_OPEN

As a quick update, we don't seem to be receiving this error anymore.  Though rather a bit has evolved in our setup since OP, one thing that stands out as a major procedural change is that we've transcoded all our consolidated Canon XF media to Avid 10:1.  We took this step among a few others in order to improve performance for our editors, and ever since the transition was completed this error hasn't shown up.

Did this error ever come back?

We have been getting this error for about 4 months now and have no idea what to do. All of our MXF media is created using MetaFuze so we are bringing in MXF's and AAF's directly into the Untiy workspaces. We delete the MCState file in the OSX application/Media Composer folder and this gets rid of the issue for a couple of weeks then it comes back.

    Anyone else seeing this?

    Actually, funny you should ask...

This past Friday, over a month since we last saw it -- we've started seeing it again. Not sure what's causing it.

It happens on several of our machines... we thought maybe deleting the Project Settings files would do it. That may have been the cure last time, but we're really not sure...

Seeing that you guys having problems are Mac based, see if the DS_Store file in causing it. Solution here. Also, the ._ file might be culprit. For that, you will need a PC connected to the Unity or ISIS to cleanse it.

    Re: error DISK_TOO_MANY_OPEN

Not too many of our folders on the Unity have any ._ files. Blowing them away doesn't do anything ot help. As a note they are visible with a mac via Terminal. Hopefully anyone doing any troubleshooting on a mac will have Terminal experience. I usually blow them away when I come across them.

Our lead editor now can't playback a full sequence with getting the DISK_TOO_MANY_OPEN error. This is becoming a show stopper. I'l try Unity support again.

    Thanks.
