I have question: I have Student Edition of MC 6.0.3 so I should first deactivating in Avid Licence Control, then uinstall just Media Composer.apk, then instal update and activate? Or I can just uninstall 6.0.3 and instal 6.0.3.1 without (de)activation?
PS: Sorry for my poor english.
This was the easiest ever. I uninstalled 6.0.3, installed 6.0.3.1, restarted and opened - everything works. Never touched the ALC.
Thanks Larry for fast replay!
It's possible to upgrade from 6.0.1.1 to 6.0.3.1 directly?

If you mean "Can I add 6.0.3.1 without first uninstalling 6.0.1.1?", the answer is no. On the Mac side of the house, every new version, update, upgrade or patch requires the complete uninstall of the existing version. It is never added on, except on the PC side of the house. However, you do not have to deactivate your license first. I just upgraded from 6.0.3 to 6.0.3.1, did the complete uninstall/reinstall without touching the ALC (Avid License Control). Everything went smoothly and everything works.
We still have the situation where the current release for mac is 6.0.3, you have to go to the patch installer page for 6.0.3.1 despite it being a full install.
The patch readme quotes "On a Macintosh system, there is only a full installer, not a patch. You must completely uninstall the previous Macintosh version. "
Will this ever change?
Steve:
The difference is that most of the recent releases have been "maintenance release" patches, which are not full version upgrades. Patches fix established and escalated problems, but they do not introduce any new features or capabilities. Those happen in full version upgrades. Since patches are added on to the base version on the PC side of the house, I would expect that any future maintenance releases will still be located under the "Avid Editor Patches" link. The main thing to remember is that regardless of full version upgrade or patch file, the Mac side of the house always requires a complete uninstall of the previous version or patch before installing the new one.

To clarify Larry's answer...actually, yes, you can.
On the PC side, any maintenance release (usually v6.0.x.x) requires the base version (v6.0.x) to be installed first, because they are simply true patches. Only certain files are replaced, most of the software is left intact.
On the Mac side, since you do a complete uninstall / reinstall every time, it really doesn't matter what your previous version was. If you were on v5.5.3.4, and were upgrading to v6, you can simply uninstall v5.5 and install the latest v6.0.3.1. No reason to install (and then uninstall) v6.0, v6.0.1, v6.0.1.1, v6.0.2, and v6.0.3 first.

That is correct and that is what I meant in my reply. Every upgrade/update/patch on the Mac side always requires a full uninstall of whatever the existing version is. On the Mac side, you will NEVER add on to an existing version. PC patches are added on to the existing matching version.
I know we do not need to load 6.0.3.1 if we are using Lion but is there a downside to using it with Lion?
In other words, can we load 6.0.3.1 on Lion?

Bill:
6.0.3.1 is qualified for 10.7.1 through 10.7.4 and 10.8. See this version matrix for complete details. Scroll down to the Mac section.
I have it running on 10.7.2 and it's screamingly fast and stable.
You won't see any difference between v6.0.3 and v6.0.3.1 on Lion, but they both work.
Is that Avid FX6.2 free upgrade and compatible with 6.0.3 or 6.5?

I was able to install AvidFX v6.2 by simply upgrading my current install. It will work with MC v6.5, and there's nothing in the release notes to indicate it wouldn't also work with v6.0.x.
