I am getting flustrated with Media Composer. About everytime I start M.C. after it has not been used for a period of time it will not let me in with the message it is not activated. I try to activate it by menu and the Internet and it says I exceeded my seats. I only have one seat. I then have to call Avid and jump through the hoops to have them remove my activation on their side so I can reactivate from my side.
M.C. will be working normally, then I end the session. I can go directly back to M.C. without this problem. However, I do other things on this computer with other software. It is after a period of not using M.C. that I then again the loss of activation and have to start all over again.
The last time I had Avid help on the phone I ask what I can do to prevent this but the answer was only that they are available to help straighten this out.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and perhaps have some advice to make M.C. stop doing this stunt.
About the only thing I can think of is to remove the activation before shutting down M.C. and have to re-activate each time to be sure I don't have to go through the call Avid process again. Not a good choice.
Thanks,
Dennis D.
Hi Dennis,
If you've already been in contact with support and they couldn't help you with this, I'd suggest contacting Marianna Montague (marianna.montague@avid.com). She's Avid's Customer Advocate, and is good at solving problems like this.
ciao,Carl

Dennis,
SW licensing via the activation relies on a few things to work properly. When this sort of situation occurs, the first thing I look at is the Network Interface Card or NIC and the binding order of the device.
The same NIC must be enabled for each launch of the software. It is therefore important to ensure that there is always a NIC enabled on your system; Cellular Aircards or other wireless NICs are not suitable NICs for software activation. It is also recommended that the onboard Local Area Connection LAN remain enabled at all times, and that the binding order of your computer is adjusted to ensure that it will be used for the software license. To change the binding order on a PC: Open Start Menu Open Network Connections In the Network Connections window, select "Advanced Settings" from the Advanced Menu. On the Adapters and Bindings Tab, Highlight the NIC you want to use for license activation (should be onboard NIC or PCMCIA card) and move it to the bottom of the list using the arrow buttons to the right of the device list. When activating your Software license through ethernet connection your Wireless card must be disabled and your local connection LAN must be enabled. After the activation process has been completed you then may enable the wireless card. Note: If you are still unsuccessful activating on a CPU that has a wireless connection (and you have adjusted the binding order as specified in the above steps), a Bluetooth adapter may be active and overriding the binding order changes. Disable the Bluetooth adapter from Device Manager. Changes made to the binding order should now take effect. If that still doesnt work, ping me via email and I can call you. Marianna
