Steps to upgrade MC 6.0.1.1 to Symphony 6.0.1.1

What are all of the steps necessary to upgrade from MC 6.0.1.1 to Symphony 6.0.1.1?  What needs to be uninstalled?  Do I need to create a brand-new user profile?  Will the same settings work with both programs?  Are there any shortcuts to the process, since these programs share so much source code?  I am talking about a software-only installation on a Windows computer.

I apologize in advance if these questions have already been answered in the Forums!  In that case, can somebody please point me to the relevant thread?

If you want to do it in a clean fashion, uninstall just Media Composer (leave EDL Manager etc.), then install just Symphony (rather than the entire suite).

If you want to do it a bit more cluttered, just install Symphony on top of the current MC 6.0.1.1 install. Since a lot of stuff is shared, it's a slightly faster install (although it will still require a reboot at the end).

You can actually have both MC and Symph installed on the same system, and use either of them, as long as they are of the EXACT same revision number.

My Symphony blasted dongle can't run Media Composer.

You have also to backup/copy the user settings and Marquee Titles from Users>Public>Public Documents>Media Composer to Symphony folder.

That if you are on a PC.

Thank you both for your help!

So my user profile and settings from MC should still work fine with Symphony?

And under what circumstances would it be useful to have both Symphony and MC on the same computer?

User profile and settings are identical, so you can bring those across.

I can think of no reason to have both installed, except for those who have multiple MC systems with dongles, and who may get one Symphony dongle, and they may want to be able to use each system as either Media Composer or Symphony. I have two Symp dongles and one MC, and I have three workstations and one laptop setup with both MC and SY, so I can use any of those dongles on any of those systems.
