Does anyone have a workflow for importing DNxHD vision from hyperdeck shuttle 2 into Avid MC5.5 ?

I've read some of the relevant posts on this issue but have not been able to get this working. A step by step guide would be much appreciated.

I still have'nt managed to get the hyperdeck footage into Avid yet. I've outlined my workflow below. Any ideas where I'm going wrong?

Copy .mxf files from SSD to C:/Avid MediaFiles/MXF/1

I then open a project, open the media tool, highlight C:/ in the Media Drives pannel and the current project in the projects pannel with 'master clips, precompute clips & media files all ticked. click OK.

None of the hyperdeck .mxf files appear and media tool only shows a small number of clips from the C:/

I think my problem lies in pointing the media tool to the correct folder.

Any thoughts would be a big help.

I'd suggest you make a \Avid MediaFiles\MXF\1 folder on your ssd. Then you just move the file from your SSD's root folder to this directory - much quicker. 

Now open your media tool, select the external drive and "All Projects". Then you should have your file!

Here's a quick update of where I'm at.

I've been able to locate the hyperdeck MXF files that i placed on the C:/ through the Avid Media Tool.

Regarding your suggestion of making an Avid MediaFiles/MXF/1 folder on the SSD I've a few questions about a possible workflow.

01. if I locate a  file 'capture001.mxf' on the SSD via media tool and drag that file to a clips bin in a project, will that be available to Avid after i disconnect or delete the files from the SSD? Does Avid create a second copy of the 'capture001.mxf' like it would for other imported files?

02. Am i right in assuming that I would need to create a new numerical folder in the Avid MediaFiles/MXF source path for every new batch of footage recored with the hyperdeck so the files don't save over and replace themselves? eg: So every new 'capture001.mxf' files doesn't keep replacing the old one.

Any thoughts on improving this kind of workflow?

Hello Kale,

1) no, you won't have your clips available if you remove the ssd, cause the files are not imported, they are just linked. if you need them, you have 2 possibilities:
- copy the file to your local hard drive -> use the media tool -> work with them
- move the file on your ssd to the Avid Mediafiles.. folder -> use media tool -> work with them -> CONSOLIDATE 
if you have short clips, it's easier to copy them to your hard drive. if you have captured a long one, the second approach might be better.

2) how is your workflow? seems like you are recording clips, start working with MC, go back to recording, ....
if you use the "consolidate" workflow from 1, there will be no need for using different folders.
if you copy/move the files to your local drive, you will have to rename them.

try to describe your workflow for further suggestions... 

Blackmagic just released drivers 2.5 beta 1 wich wrap DNxHD on mov, so you can use with AMA ;)
