Hi,
I just went from Avid 7 to the latest version 2018.12.01. A lot has changed in the meantime. I don't have visuals on the 3rd/client monitor and don't know where to look in order to possibly change settings. Any help much appreciated!
My specs are; HP Z820 2x 8C E5-2680 2.2.7GHz/4x4GB/1TB SATA/MsWindows 7 Bus 64Bits UK/Bios versie V2.08/HP Display Port To DVI-D Adpr/HP nVidia Quadro K4200 4GB PCIe 1xDVI 2xDP
For the record: You're talking about that system with a BlackMagic Design I/O, right? Which one again, and which driver?
Yes I am. Which driver? Nvidia, is that what you mean? The latest version for Quadro K4200. Let me know if this is not the info you asked for.
Nom the nVidia driver is for your graphics card, the one driving your computer screens. For those, you should install the driver version that comes with Media Composer. C:/Program Files/Avid/Utilities/nVidia. But those are not really relevant for getting picture to your Client/Program monitor.
The BMD I/O device (not sure which one you have) is the one that Avid would send picture and sound to, and that is the card/device that you would normally hook up your client monitor and audio monitoring to.
So, if your MC is installed, and running fine, you need to make sure you install the right BlackMagic "Desktop Video" driver, so that both your system (your Windows machine) as well as Media Composer (when running) 'see' the I/O device, so MC can send picture and sound to it.
The BMD drivers can be found on their site: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/support/family/capture-and-playback
Which _version_ of the driver you need, depends on the version of MC you are running. I'm not currently running any BMD devices, but I'm sure someone here will chime in and tell you which driver version you need. A quick scan of BMD's site suggests you would need to be on Desktop Video 10.11.4. If you come from MC7, you will most likely have run a much, much older driver version.
When the proper driver is installed, you should be able to open up the BlackMagic Desktop Video Utility, and it should show you the I/O device. It would look something like this.
If you subsequently launch Media Composer, the main application window should say something like "Avid Media Composer Intensity" (where 'intensity' would be the name of the installed device). If it just says "Avid Media Composer", then MC is not seeing the I/O device, and is running in software-only mode.
Also, can you be specific about which BlackMagic I/O device you have installed/attached? Not that it matters a great deal when it comes to drivers, but just to get a clear picture of your setup.
Hmm okay, MC is installed, 2018.12.1, working fine, all plugins installed and as last the desktop driver; Desktop Video Installer v10.11.4.msi, was installed as it said in the manual.
The little TV icon at the timeline is flashing red which I read means that it is enabled and active? Which would mean that the problem might lay somewhere else?
Ah I think this is the problem!
It does indeed not say Intensity, and it also says "hardware options none".
The little TV icon at the timeline is flashing red
I'm not sure what you are referring to.
To the top of your computer screens, does it say "Avid Media Composer SOMETHING", or just "Avid Media Composer"?
J
Ah OK, so MC is not seeing your BMD device.
Can you try closing down MC, uninstalling BMD Desktop Video, reboot your computer, install BMD Desktop Video, then try to launch MC?
So after speaking to you on the phone, we have:
- noticed that the Intensity Pro is seen by Windows in Device Manager, but with a yellow warning sign
- noticed that the Intensity Pro is not seen by Desktop Video Setup
- uninstalled Desktop Video 10.11.4
- re-installed Desktop Video 10.11.4
- noticed exact same issues
- uninstalled 10.11.4
- installed 10.11.2
- noticed exact same issues.
This is something that BMD support should look into, as I have no ideas left.
