  • Importing Alpha Channels in MC5

Hello Everyone! I'm hoping someone has an answer for me. I'm trying to import a quicktime I created in After Effects and rendered out with an Alpha Channel, the only problem is, when the file comes into Avid the Alpha isn't there. I double checked and brought the rendered file back into After...

  • Importing DNxHD with Alpha from After Effects

I gave up on getting this to work and now that it's working I wanted to share. What's confusing is that the DNxHD Codec Option settings combine source and target settings without differentiating which is which. Here is some clarification: If you are working in After Effects (RGB) select RGB Levels...

  • Avid EMP will not install

I updated to AVID MC 5, Windows 7 (64 bit) and Adobe CS5. I was used to having output of afters effects on my client minitor using my AVID SDI Mojo (avid EMP soft). Now after the updates I can't install Avid EMP anymore. When installing it seems the installer does not see After Effects. Can anyone...

  • Export for VFX

I'm a VFX artist and I'm not too familar with the Avid workflow so I was hoping somebody could help me out. I need to bring footage from Avid into Nuke or AE in an uncompressed format. The guy I'm working with has the footage on his computer and he cut it on Avid MC. He wants me to rebuild...

  • Re: DNxHD After Effects Quicktime codec error (-8960)

Using MC5, the Quick Import won't work. I have to intentionally choose a different quality setting to make this work. For example, using AfterEffects, I render out a Quicktime with Alpha at the DNxHD 220X setting. Then I import it into Avid MC with my settings set at 145. It asks me if I want to...

  • AE renders in Avid codec = white (overexposed) frames

Though the Quicktimes (rendered in AE8) look fine in the Quicktime player, they often have "overexposed" frames and fields once imported into the Avid*. When you watch the flawed AE Qt import the problem frames look like hits. On closer inspection it is one frame (field) that is bleached out...

  • Re: DNxHD or Uncompressed HD for VFX?

Thanks, Randall. That's pretty much what I figured. We won't be filming out, rather finishing at 175 and laying off to SR. Does anyone who deals with visual effects on a daily basis in AE have a preference between DNxHD resolutions vs uncompressed? Is there any draw back or more work involved...

  • exportar DNX a QT reference 60i

  • MC5 QT Reference Files Crash AE CS5

I'm scratching my head over this. Every time I export a QT reference file out of MC5 and try to import it into After Effects CS5 it crashes the program on import. As far as I can tell, everything is fine with the QT reference file, as it plays no problem in quicktime. I have the AVID codecs installed...
