  • Using the BCC Optical Stabiliser Filter

Yet another daunting interface approached from a very low level. Stabilisation when you are only concerned with horisontal and vertical movement can be done in Avid's own stabiliser. If you are looking for a wider control, then the BCC filters (installed from the Boris Continuum Complete disc in...

  • AvidFX Text Tool - 1

I guess that because there are already two text tools in MC the Text Tool in AvidFX is often overlooked. When it is not overlooked I imagine that many newcomers are, like I was, intimidated by the interface. In actual fact, as long as you don't try running before you learn to walk the basics of the...

  • Drag & Drop to create sub-clips

As a newcomer to MC I continue to look for alternative methods of doing things. Only a few weeks ago I was introduced to the concept of drag & drop in MC, as a way to create subclips. I find it very useful if I want to use more than 1 sub-clip from captured material. Regards Douglas

  • Fading Title Clips - 2 methods

We humans seem to have similarities to birds. Newly hatched birds are said to associate the first moving object they see with "mother". I know I have a similar feeling when I see an editing tip or technique for the first time. I tend to believe that that is the one and only way to achieve the...

  • Log GOP problem when exporting HDV material to a QT-reference file

This is a rehash of one of my early tutorials. The problem with HDV's long GOP when exporting a QT reference file keeps popping up on the Forums, so I thought I would add this to my video tutorials directly. Many newcomers, myself included, come to MC with an HDV camera and capture through a firewire...

  • Paint more Paths with AvidFX

While making the first tutorial on painting a path I stumbled across some other ideas that may give food for thought. Watch it.... then it is up to you to make the effort to find a use for it. Good Luck. Douglas

  • MatchFrameEdit

The following tip about the "Match Frame Edit" was inspired by Mattman in Florida, when he responded to another of my tutorials. Thank you for that tip Matt. Basically you can use the "MatchFrameEdit" function to selectively remove an "AddEdit" from a group of clips on the...

  • Solving Border Flashing in Record-Monitor and Camtasia Studio

The flashing border in the Record-Monitor at the start of playback puzzles many newcomers. It may be old rope for most of you, but here it is again for the newcomers! Those of you who are making tutorials using Camtasia Studio may have seen the same thing happen. Regards, Douglas

  • Paint a Path with AvidFX

I once used BorisFX as a plug-in to Avid Liquid and later in MC 2.8 to paint paths. I never could get consistent results. After upgrading to MC 3.x and installing Avid FX I found that the Paint a Path effect was much easier to apply and control. AvidFX (Boris Red) still presents a steep learning curve...

  • Preventing MC from "hanging" when changing Languages in the Title Tool

I have seen threads started by users who have problems when using Title Tool or SubCaps. If they are working in more than one language and they try to change languages MC will quite often "hang". I recently received a tip from Mr. Egawa of Avid Technology in Japan about a setting in Windows...
