  • 4 Simple Steps from HD to an SD DVD

Not everyone wants to author a fully featured DVD with chapter points. menues. subtitles etc. Sometimes all that is required is a quick output of a sequence in MC to a DVD with nothing added. Here is one workflow which is simple and requires only 4 easy steps. Good luck! Regards, Douglas

  • Expanding Library of Media Composer Tutorials

I am a relative newcomer to Media Composer (early 2008) and as I began to feel my way around I got the idea of documenting my adventures by creating short video tutorials, Avid had already a large number of excellent, professionally produced tutorials online. I learned very much from watching them. However...

  • Using Keyframes in Effects

To say the least, I was very confused by keyframes when I first began using BorisFX and later AvidFX. I could never seem to get consistent results. Hopefully this very basic look at keyframing will point you in the correct direction. Good luck! Douglas The playback screen can be maximised by using the...

  • A Split Screen Effect using "Crop" Control

This effect has been around since the beginning of time. Probably one of the earliest effects used in films. Simple though it is, there are a surprising number of budding editors who have never realised it can be done very easily in MC. Not so many days ago there was a question on the Forums about how...

  • Nudge Nudge!

The default keyboard has a set of very useful "nudge" commands mapped to four of the keys. Newcomers might miss these in their initial meeting with MC. Maybe you can find some use for them! Regards, Douglas The playback screen can be maximised by using the "Full-screen" button in...

  • Pseudo Timelapse

The long GOP structure of HDV make life difficult if you want to create a timelapse video. The workaround I use is done by taking a video of the complete event then use the Motion Effect Editor to create the effect by timewarping. Regards, Douglas

  • The SubCap Generator - Exporting a subcap to AvidDVD

Having succeeded in entering Japanese text into the SubCap Generator, I began to wonder if I could export it easily and then import it into AvidDVD. That was not as easy as I had hoped for. However I did find a way to do it in the end. The method will work for subcaps in any language. Regards, Douglas

  • AvidFX Text Tool - 1

I guess that because there are already two text tools in MC the Text Tool in AvidFX is often overlooked. When it is not overlooked I imagine that many newcomers are, like I was, intimidated by the interface. In actual fact, as long as you don't try running before you learn to walk the basics of the...

  • Paint a Path with AvidFX

I once used BorisFX as a plug-in to Avid Liquid and later in MC 2.8 to paint paths. I never could get consistent results. After upgrading to MC 3.x and installing Avid FX I found that the Paint a Path effect was much easier to apply and control. AvidFX (Boris Red) still presents a steep learning curve...
